Chapter 205

Debra dropped a stack of files onto Sheliaโ€™s desk. Shelia looked up, her face paling to a ghostly white. โ€œAbsolutely, youโ€™re right,โ€ Liam said. Debra smiled with satisfaction. โ€œThen itโ€™s settled. Iโ€™ll get back to work. Mr. Tyson, please sign here.โ€

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll sign,โ€ Liam agreed hastily. He scrawled his signature without a thought to renewing the contract with Michael next year. Angering Debra was more dangerous than losing money.

Shelia stood rooted to the spot, her body trembling with barely contained rage. She watched as Debra sauntered back to her workstation, looking entirely at ease amidst the tension. Debraโ€™s smile widened as she caught sight of Sheliaโ€™s frustrated expression.

Truth be told, Shelia was not without her strengths. She was clever, academically gifted, and possessed a certain cunning. However, she was woefully ignorant of the unspoken rules governing their industry. She believed her association with Juan would grant her immunity, but she had failed to grasp the nuances of their social circle. Even with a powerful name behind her, she would never be accepted as a mistress.

It was a lesson Rosalie had learned the hard way. Despite her current status and Ralphโ€™s genuine care, she remained an outcast in high society. After all, her position had not been earned honorably.

After signing the contract, Liam handed it back to Debra, who passed it to Ben without a glance. โ€œTake the contract back. You can go now,โ€ she said.

โ€œYes, madam,โ€ Ben replied, casting a withering look at Liam before turning to leave.

Debraโ€™s phone buzzed, a message illuminating the screen.

Michael: [Howโ€™s the situation?] Debra: [Good!]

Though Michael hadnโ€™t explicitly stated how he would assist her, Debra had a general idea. Liam, still standing awkwardly beside her, awaited her next instructions. Debra simply said, โ€œEveryone, please return to your posts. Itโ€™s work time, and Iโ€™m still an intern. Chill out.โ€

Despite her reassurances, no one dared take her words lightly. Shelia, her voice like ice, snapped at the lingering workers. โ€œWhy are you all standing around? Go back to work!โ€

The employees scattered, quickly returning to their desks. Shelia, still fuming, retreated to her office. A while later, she was summoned to Liamโ€™s office.

โ€œMr. Tyson, anything I can do for you?โ€

โ€œMiss Miles, your abilities are exceptional, truly. But youโ€™re overqualified for our company.โ€

โ€œAre you trying to get rid of me?โ€ Shelia quickly caught on to his implication.

Liam chose his words carefully. โ€œOur company is small. We canโ€™t accommodate two important figures, especially since Ms. Frazier is Mr. Nicholsโ€™ wife. It might not be suitable for you to be here.โ€

He was dancing around the issue, but the meaning was clear. Unfazed, Shelia took a step forward. โ€œIf youโ€™re worried about offending Debra, donโ€™t be. Juan will divorce her soon, and Iโ€™ll put in a good word for you.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not the problem, Miss Miles.โ€ Liam looked troubled. โ€œMs. Frazier has the backing of her family. Itโ€™s just been reported that Mr. Frazier has placed her in charge of all company affairs. I canโ€™t afford to offend them.โ€

Shelia staggered back, her composure crumbling. โ€œWhat? That canโ€™t be true.โ€
