Chapter 207
Shelia was supposed to be Juanโs lover, yet he had been surprisingly harsh with her, not even bothering to inquire about her situation.
โOkay, Mr. Nichols,โ Liam said. โIโll take good care of Mrs. Nichols. I wonโt let her be mistreated at the company.โ
Juan, growing impatient, ended the call abruptly without further comment. Joe, who had been standing by, said cautiously, โIf Miss Miles canโt secure an internship right away, her thesisโฆโ
Juanโs voice was cold and dismissive. โIf she canโt secure an internship, then my years of training her have been wasted. Donโt mention her again. I have no further interest in her affairs.โ
โUnderstood.โ
In the afternoon, Debra received a call from Ben while pouring herself a cup of tea.
โWhatโs up, Ben?โ
โThis noon, several companies under the group received the same resume.โ
โWhose resume?โ
โShelia Miles.โ
Debra couldnโt help but laugh. Freshly out of her job, Shelia was already scrambling for another position. She was likely afraid that this internship debacle would cost her the graduate spot she had secured through Juanโs influence.
โWhat positionโ?โ
Ben chuckled, finding the situation amusing. โUhโฆ the vice GM position.โ After all, Shelia was just an intern who hadnโt even graduated from school. Her ambition was almost comical.
โWhich companies has she applied to?โ Debra asked.
โA mix of smaller firmsโsome are under the Frazier Group, some under the McKinney Group, and others are businesses run by Mr. Osborne and Miss Mathis,โ Ben listed.
Debra nodded, understanding the situation. The Frazier Group had many subsidiaries. Even if small, they were all well-known, either part of Frazier Group acquisitions or significant firms in their own right. Shelia likely wasnโt aware of this, or she wouldnโt have considered working for a company associated with the Fraziers.
The McKinney Groupโs newer companies were Debraโs ventures, known for offering good salaries. Without Juanโs support, Shelia might have thought a higher-paying job at the McKinney Group was her best option. Moreover, she might have anticipated that these companies needed talent and figured she could land a decent position with her educational background. Randy and Erica were both prominent industry figures, and their companies were no less influential than the Frazier Group.
Shelia thought she could find a company that wouldnโt cross paths with Debra, but she underestimated the interconnectedness of the cityโs business landscape. Hundreds of companies were crammed together, and only a few stood out, most of which were interlinked or part of the same group.
Shelia had run into a tough spot indeed.
โSend me her resume later,โ Debra instructed.
Ben was puzzled. โMadam, are you planning to hire Shelia?โ That was like inviting trouble.
Debra smiled, her eyes gleaming with amusement and calculation. โThe internship is less than a month long. If I donโt take her, someone else will. Itโs better to keep her here, where I can keep an eye on her. With her abilities, she wonโt stir up much trouble.โ
โUnderstood.โ
Debra ended the call, her mind racing with plans. She was genuinely curious to see what Shelia could achieve on her own. That same afternoon, Shelia received an interview notice from one of McKinney Groupโs companies.
