Chapter 254
In response to Sheliaโs outburst, the voice on the other end of the phone sneered, โThe one weโve taken is Juanโs wife. The ransom we can demand from him is far higher than what youโd pay for a mere hit job. Thanks to the address you provided, we found Juanโs home.โ
Shelia paled at his words. The man added, โBut donโt you worry; if Juan pays the ransom, weโll clean up this mess for you. If he doesnโt, weโll still handle it. Just a matter of time.โ
โYou canโt do this,โ Shelia protested. โOnce you contact Juan, heโll stop at nothing to find out who you are, and then Iโll be exposed.โ She knew how resourceful Juan was. It wouldnโt take him long to figure out who the kidnappers were, and heโd certainly trace it back to her. Even if Debra died, her dream of entering high society would be shattered.
โThatโs not our problem,โ the man snorted. โWeโre just doing our job and making a little extra on the side.โ
โNo, how can you do this?โ Shelia shouted frantically, but the line went dead. She trembled, expecting doom.
Clarissa asked anxiously, โWhatโs wrong? What are we going to do?โ
Shelia whirled around, her eyes bloodshot. โWhat kind of people did you hire? Theyโre so unreliable!โ
โDonโt panic,โ Clarissa tried to soothe her. โDebraโs going to die sooner or later. As long as Juan doesnโt trace it back to you, everything will be fine.โ
โThatโs your wishful thinking!โ Shelia said, gritting her teeth. โAny delay will make things worse. Those three men couldnโt really keep Juan at bay. Iโm afraid that Debra will come back alive, and they will get caught and spill everything.โ
Those people were desperate, and for money, they might do anything, even if it meant exposing her. She had to come up with a plan. She needed to kill Debra and avoid any future problems. With that thought in mind, she rushed out of the room.
Debra slowly regained consciousness. She opened her eyes, felt a slight swaying motion, and saw various items scattered around. As her vision cleared, she realized she was in a cabin.
โWhat if that woman was speaking the truth? What if Juan can really track us down? What then?โ
โOnce we get the money, weโll be far away. Whoโs going to find us?โ
โTrue.โ
Debra listened to the three menโs conversation. With sharp knives in their hands, they looked like stowaways from another country. Such weapons were banned in Seamar City. Debra frowned, trying to stay calm. โIs the woman theyโre talking about Hester? No, it canโt be her. Her clumsy, self-directed kidnapping wouldnโt have led her to such dangerous men. These men are clearly desperate and dangerous.โ
โBoss, sheโs awake.โ
Debra had no intention of feigning unconsciousness. Staying that way could lead to unpredictable situations. The leader, upon hearing his accomplice, approached Debra with a knife and roughly tore the tape from her mouth.
Debra didnโt scream or make a sound, her calm demeanor surprising the leader.
