Chapter 259

Clarissaโ€™s acting was unconvincing. Her eyes darted nervously. Juan frowned. โ€œIs this her?โ€ he asked, turning to Joe.

Joe nodded. โ€œYes, she colluded with the kidnappers.โ€

Juanโ€™s gaze returned to Clarissa, who trembled. โ€œDonโ€™t you know who I am?โ€

โ€œNo, your people brought me here. This is illegal! Iโ€™m calling the police. Iโ€™m going to report this.โ€

โ€œOkay, give her a phone. Let her call the police.โ€

Juanโ€™s words silenced Clarissa; her bravado vanished. โ€œYou can tell them how you colluded with the kidnappers to abduct Debra.โ€

Clarissa crumpled to the ground, speechless.

A nearby guard said, โ€œSir, we caught her trying to buy a train ticket to Booton. Her hometown must be there.โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Clarissa weakly denied. โ€œMy hometown isnโ€™t Booton. I was just traveling, not running away.โ€

Juan asked sternly, โ€œWhy kidnap Debra? Who are you?โ€ He had no recollection of ever seeing Clarissa, and given his status, it was unlikely their paths had crossed.

Clarissa remained silent, and Juanโ€™s expression hardened. โ€œIf you wonโ€™t talk, I can find out myself. Until then, youโ€™re going to the police station.โ€

Clarissaโ€™s heart pounded, yet a strange lack of genuine fear was evident. Being taken to the station wasnโ€™t the worst outcome; she merely needed to avoid admitting guilt. Once she became Mrs. Nichols, she would be safe.

Juan noticed her peculiar reaction and narrowed his eyes. Joe stepped forward. โ€œTake her to the police station.โ€

โ€œWait,โ€ Juan stopped him. โ€œThatโ€™s unnecessary.โ€

Clarissaโ€™s heart skipped a beat. She wondered what he meant.

Juan sneered, โ€œIt will take the police a long time to interrogate her. My approach will be much faster.โ€

Dread washed over Clarissa as Juan turned to Joe. โ€œLock her in the black box. She can come out when she talks.โ€

Joe understood and nodded. โ€œWill do.โ€

Clarissa shivered. โ€œWโ€“Whatโ€™s a black box?โ€

Juan replied, โ€œThe black box is a pitch-black, windowless small room. Itโ€™s like a dog cage, with no water or food. I donโ€™t know whatโ€™s insideโ€”maybe rats, spiders, or snakes.โ€

Clarissa panicked. โ€œNo. I donโ€™t want that. This is illegal. Youโ€™reโ€ฆโ€

Juan struck her hard in the chest. โ€œIโ€™m giving you one last chance. If you donโ€™t talk, youโ€™ll suffer like hell. I guarantee it will be worse than anything you can imagine.โ€
