Chapter 259
Clarissaโs acting was unconvincing. Her eyes darted nervously. Juan frowned. โIs this her?โ he asked, turning to Joe.
Joe nodded. โYes, she colluded with the kidnappers.โ
Juanโs gaze returned to Clarissa, who trembled. โDonโt you know who I am?โ
โNo, your people brought me here. This is illegal! Iโm calling the police. Iโm going to report this.โ
โOkay, give her a phone. Let her call the police.โ
Juanโs words silenced Clarissa; her bravado vanished. โYou can tell them how you colluded with the kidnappers to abduct Debra.โ
Clarissa crumpled to the ground, speechless.
A nearby guard said, โSir, we caught her trying to buy a train ticket to Booton. Her hometown must be there.โ
โNo,โ Clarissa weakly denied. โMy hometown isnโt Booton. I was just traveling, not running away.โ
Juan asked sternly, โWhy kidnap Debra? Who are you?โ He had no recollection of ever seeing Clarissa, and given his status, it was unlikely their paths had crossed.
Clarissa remained silent, and Juanโs expression hardened. โIf you wonโt talk, I can find out myself. Until then, youโre going to the police station.โ
Clarissaโs heart pounded, yet a strange lack of genuine fear was evident. Being taken to the station wasnโt the worst outcome; she merely needed to avoid admitting guilt. Once she became Mrs. Nichols, she would be safe.
Juan noticed her peculiar reaction and narrowed his eyes. Joe stepped forward. โTake her to the police station.โ
โWait,โ Juan stopped him. โThatโs unnecessary.โ
Clarissaโs heart skipped a beat. She wondered what he meant.
Juan sneered, โIt will take the police a long time to interrogate her. My approach will be much faster.โ
Dread washed over Clarissa as Juan turned to Joe. โLock her in the black box. She can come out when she talks.โ
Joe understood and nodded. โWill do.โ
Clarissa shivered. โWโWhatโs a black box?โ
Juan replied, โThe black box is a pitch-black, windowless small room. Itโs like a dog cage, with no water or food. I donโt know whatโs insideโmaybe rats, spiders, or snakes.โ
Clarissa panicked. โNo. I donโt want that. This is illegal. Youโreโฆโ
Juan struck her hard in the chest. โIโm giving you one last chance. If you donโt talk, youโll suffer like hell. I guarantee it will be worse than anything you can imagine.โ
