Chapter 261

Shelia struggled to free herself from Joeโ€™s grip. โ€œLet go of me!โ€ she said sternly. โ€œNone of you can touch me. Iโ€™m pregnant with Mr. Nicholsโ€™ child.โ€ Her voice was steady and clear, loud enough for everyone nearby to hear. Some employees poked their heads in to watch. Juanโ€™s face darkened. The onlookers exchanged glances, realizing that Sheliaโ€™s claim might hold some truth.

Shelia took a step closer to Juan, her hand gently touching her still-flat belly. โ€œJuan, this is your child, your first child. Are you really going to treat him like this?โ€ Juanโ€™s hands clenched into fists at his sides. Clarissa, who had been cowering on the floor, immediately straightened her back. She knew that in prominent families like the Nichols, offspring were of utmost importance. If Shelia was indeed pregnant with Juanโ€™s child, her position in the family would be secured. Clarissa felt a surge of excitement replace her fear. She was about to become Juanโ€™s mother-in-law and the grandmother of the future heir to the Nichols family. She had nothing to fear now.

Juan sneered, โ€œYou say youโ€™re pregnant?โ€

Shelia lifted her chin. โ€œHave you forgotten what youโ€™ve done? Weโ€™ve been together for a night, and now Iโ€™m carrying your child. You canโ€™t let your people drive me away.โ€

Juan narrowed his eyes, but he remained unfazed. Turning to Joe, he ordered, โ€œTake her to the hospital. Watch her take the test and bring me the report.โ€

โ€œYes, sir,โ€ Joe acknowledged, turning to Shelia. โ€œMiss Miles, please come with me.โ€

Shelia followed Joe out of the room without resistance, casting a glance back at Clarissa, who was still on the floor. Clarissa understood the silent message in Sheliaโ€™s eyes. If she ratted Shelia out now, both of them would be doomed. She had to endure this and wait until Shelia became Mrs. Nichols. Then her life would take off.

Steeling herself, she looked up at Juan. โ€œMr. Nichols, Iโ€™m telling the truth. I did all this on my own, with no instructions from anyone.โ€

Juan sneered at the answer. โ€œGood. Lock her up! Until sheโ€™s willing to talk.โ€

โ€œYes, sir,โ€ the bodyguards acknowledged, stepping forward to restrain Clarissa. As they led her away, she clung to the hope that Sheliaโ€™s gamble had ignited within her.

After everyone had left, Juan glanced at his remaining bodyguard. โ€œInvestigate this person thoroughly. Her background, personal information, everything. Then report back to me.โ€

โ€œYes, sir,โ€ the bodyguard acknowledged, withdrawing from the room.

Left alone in the office, Juan sat down tiredly. He opened a drawer to retrieve a photograph. It was the only picture of him and Debra, taken during their first shopping trip together. He had snapped it secretly with his phone, capturing her as she enjoyed a snack and half of his face. Holding the picture now, he was beside himself with both relief andโ€ฆ
