Chapter 274
With Debra presumed dead, Juan had to arrange her funeral and handle the divorce paperwork for the Nichols family once again. He let out a sudden laugh, a sound of resignation. โAlright, letโs do as my grandma says.โ After all, his whole life seemed a puppet dance orchestrated by the Nichols family.
News of the grand funeral for Mrs. Nichols reached Debraโs ears. The event was being held on a massive scale, seemingly designed to ensure everyone in high society knew about it. Invitations were sent to industry elites, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists, each holding a significant position in the business world.
Debra looked at the invitation, her lips curling into a sneer. Cutting off useless ties was a common Nichols family tacticโthe same in her previous life and this one.
โWhat should we do, Ms. Frazier?โ Ben asked. They hadnโt anticipated the Nichols familyโs haste in holding the funeral. If Debra were officially declared dead, things would become significantly complicated.
โSince the invitation has already reached me, not going would seem inappropriate,โ she said seriously. โNot expecting to attend my own funeral one day.โ She was curious about what kind of funeral Juan would organize. Would it be a commercial banquet or a solemn church service praying for my soul to rest in peace?
โBut your identityโฆโ
โJuan no longer has any leverage to challenge the McKinney Group. Thus, thereโs no need to hide my identity any longer.โ
Debra looked forward to the funeral, scheduled for tomorrow, wondering what expressions Melody and Shelia would wear upon seeing her. She still had a score to settle with Shelia.
The next day, as Melody handled the final arrangements for Debraโs funeral, only Shelia remained at the Nichols family house. Seeing her opportunity, she went upstairs and opened the door to Debraโs former bedroom. She had said from the start she would eventually move in, and now, her dream was about to come true.
Shelia entered, lit some incense, and opened the wardrobe. Inside were Debraโs clothes, a collection of high-end brands that nearly dazzled her eyes.
Sophie, a household servant, was passing by when she noticed Debraโs room door ajar. Puzzled, she went upstairs and pushed it open, only to find Shelia standing before the dressing mirror, flaunting her figure in one of Debraโs dresses.
Sophie was shocked. โWhat are you doing in Mrs. Nicholsโ room, wearing her clothes?โ
Shelia showed no sign of panic. She turned to face Sophie and said calmly, โDebra is dead, and I am carrying Juanโs child. Everything here will be mine. Youโre just a hired servant. How dare you lecture me?โ
โYouโฆ How can you be so uncouth? Youโre not even remotely close to Mrs. Nichols,โ Sophie retorted. She had worked for the Nichols family for many years and had never been spoken to like this.
Unfazed, Shelia sneered. โA servant is just a servant. When I become Mrs. Nichols, youโll be the first one I dismiss.โ
Her threat caused Sophie to blanch.
