Chapter 323
Debra stood calmly, her voice steady. โThis is between Marion and Cathryn. We shouldnโt interfere.โ
โBut Marion likes you,โ Erica insisted, throwing her hands up in frustration. โCathryn is just causing a scene. Marion never once said he wanted to marry her or even liked her. Sheโs just putting on a show, acting like sheโs the victim. Didnโt you see how those passersby looked at you?โ They acted as if Debra had done something bad to Cathryn, though the whole thing had nothing to do with her.
Erica stomped her foot and continued, โIf it werenโt for her father, Marion wouldnโt have paid her any attention.โ
Debra shrugged, but her gaze betrayed her as she glanced at Marion and Cathryn. Cathryn attempted to grab Marionโs arm, but he deftly sidestepped her.
โDo you dislike me touching you that much?โ she asked, dropping her eyes.
Marion replied indifferently, โI promised Shawn that youโd be safe for the rest of your life, but if you keep pushing me, Iโll have to break that promise.โ
Cathryn recoiled, her bravado faltering. She knew that Marion wasnโt one to make empty threats. When her father was alive, he often called upon Marion to deal with troublesome individuals. Marion defied the rules; he wasnโt known for his patience or mercy.
He turned to Randy and said, โTake Miss Bernard back.โ
Randy blinked, confused. โBack where?โ
Marion shot him a look, and understanding dawned on Randyโs face. โOh, you mean back abroad? But thatโs out of the question.โ
Marion frowned, his impatience growing. Before he could press the issue, Cathryn, seemingly overwhelmed by emotion, apologized. Erica, noticing Debraโs darkening mood, voiced her concern about the incident's potential repercussions. Debra remained silent, her feelings evident in her expression.
