Chapter 323

Debra stood calmly, her voice steady. โ€œThis is between Marion and Cathryn. We shouldnโ€™t interfere.โ€

โ€œBut Marion likes you,โ€ Erica insisted, throwing her hands up in frustration. โ€œCathryn is just causing a scene. Marion never once said he wanted to marry her or even liked her. Sheโ€™s just putting on a show, acting like sheโ€™s the victim. Didnโ€™t you see how those passersby looked at you?โ€ They acted as if Debra had done something bad to Cathryn, though the whole thing had nothing to do with her.

Erica stomped her foot and continued, โ€œIf it werenโ€™t for her father, Marion wouldnโ€™t have paid her any attention.โ€

Debra shrugged, but her gaze betrayed her as she glanced at Marion and Cathryn. Cathryn attempted to grab Marionโ€™s arm, but he deftly sidestepped her.

โ€œDo you dislike me touching you that much?โ€ she asked, dropping her eyes.

Marion replied indifferently, โ€œI promised Shawn that youโ€™d be safe for the rest of your life, but if you keep pushing me, Iโ€™ll have to break that promise.โ€

Cathryn recoiled, her bravado faltering. She knew that Marion wasnโ€™t one to make empty threats. When her father was alive, he often called upon Marion to deal with troublesome individuals. Marion defied the rules; he wasnโ€™t known for his patience or mercy.

He turned to Randy and said, โ€œTake Miss Bernard back.โ€

Randy blinked, confused. โ€œBack where?โ€

Marion shot him a look, and understanding dawned on Randyโ€™s face. โ€œOh, you mean back abroad? But thatโ€™s out of the question.โ€

Marion frowned, his impatience growing. Before he could press the issue, Cathryn, seemingly overwhelmed by emotion, apologized. Erica, noticing Debraโ€™s darkening mood, voiced her concern about the incident's potential repercussions. Debra remained silent, her feelings evident in her expression.
