Chapter 347

Debraโ€™s eyes turned cold. โ€œI understand what you mean, Mr. Hardy, but whether or not I am involved in corruption or illegally transferring company assets, your people should be able to find out, right?โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re still investigating. For now, please bear with us for a few days.โ€

โ€œA few days? It seems you do think of me as a criminal.โ€

โ€œNot at all. Weโ€™re just following procedures. Iโ€™ll figure out a way, I promise.โ€

โ€œI wonโ€™t make things difficult for you. Since your people are having such a hard time investigating, let my people handle it.โ€

โ€œWellโ€ฆโ€

โ€œFinding evidence is all that matters, isnโ€™t it?โ€

Pedro sighed. โ€œYouโ€™re right. Iโ€™ll contact your people now. As long as we can find evidence and cover up that missing money, you should be fine.โ€

Debra didnโ€™t respond, her silence a tacit agreement.

Pedro hesitated before adding, โ€œThereโ€™s one more thing.โ€

โ€œIs there more bad news you havenโ€™t told me?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s Miss Mathis. Sheโ€™s been causing a commotion outside, wanting to see you, but according to the rules, she canโ€™t come in now. Could you persuade her to leave? The situation is really not good.โ€

He couldnโ€™t afford to offend either of them. Erica was backed by Randy, while Debra was backed by Marion. Pedro was already at his wit's end.

Debraโ€™s expression softened at the mention of Erica. In her previous life, she didnโ€™t have many friends. Erica was the first real friend sheโ€™d had since her rebirth. She could imagine how worried Erica must be.

Debra replied, โ€œJust tell her Iโ€™m fine and not to worry. She should go back and not contact anyone on my behalf.โ€

โ€œIs that all?โ€

โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œAlright. Iโ€™ll go tell her,โ€ Pedro said politely, rising and leaving the room.

Debra turned to the guard standing by and asked, โ€œYou probably wonโ€™t be interrogating me today, right?โ€

โ€œProbably not.โ€

โ€œThen arrange a cell for me.โ€

The guard shook his head repeatedly. โ€œNo, we canโ€™t let you stay in a cell. Weโ€™ve received instructions from the authorities. Someone will come to take you out through the back door to the arranged accommodation.โ€

โ€œInstructions? Is it Marion?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not sure.โ€

โ€œWell then, letโ€™s go.โ€

โ€œAlright. This way, please,โ€ the guard said, leading Debra out of the interrogation room.

The fresh air outside helped clear the agitation in her mind. As she reached the back door, she saw a familiar black Maybach waiting.

The driver opened the rear door, and Debra slid inside. She had thought it might be Marionโ€™s backup, but it didnโ€™t seem like it. The driverโ€™s face rang a bell, and it dawned on her that he worked for Andrew.

โ€œAre you from the Potter family?โ€ she asked.

The driver nodded. โ€œYes, Mr. Andrew Potter asked me to take you to the Potter Manion. We have arrangedโ€ฆ protection, so no one will know.โ€

Debra didnโ€™t say anything. She hadnโ€™t expected Andrewโ€™s influence to extend this far. Just a single word from him was enough to have the police release her.
