Chapter 35
In response to Jordanโs meaningful smile, Debra replied indifferently, โNo.โ Jordan was surprised. โYou donโt want to know?โ โNot interested.โ Regardless of the professor's identity, she simply needed to behave and graduate smoothly.
โDo you know who I am?โ
โMr. Jordan Potter, as the dean just mentioned.โ
โYet you dare to speak to me like this?โ
Debra turned her head, looking seriously at Jordan. โWell, weโre in class right now.โ
Jordan scrutinized her, about to approach and continue the conversation, when Randy pushed up his glasses and pointed at Jordan from the podium. Randy felt obliged to protect the woman favored by his friend. Jordan frowned but, surprisingly, didnโt get angry at Randy.
Everyone tacitly understood. Arcane Academy, known for its elite student body, employed influential figures like Randy to manage these privileged students where ordinary professors failed. Randy was backed by Marion, who, while seemingly lacking direct influence, had established himself in the city after Caleb acknowledged his identity. Marion was known as a desperado, the kind of man whose unsavory connections were essential to handling the underhanded dealings common in every business. They wouldn't want to offend him.
โSo, letโs start with self-introductions to get to know each other. Weโll be spending a lot of time together,โ Randy said, adopting a friendly expression.
Everyone introduced themselves one by one, speaking animatedly about their family businesses, the mines they owned, their international education backgrounds, or their societal achievements. When it was Debraโs turn, she simply said, โIโm Debra Frazier,โ then left the podium. The other students exchanged glances, seemingly reaching a consensus. Debra, the newlywed wife of Juan, was rumored to have gained admission to Arcane Academy through his connections, not her own merit. Such a woman, even if beautiful, was looked down upon by them.
โJordan Potter.โ
Following immediately, Jordan stated his name and stepped down from the podium. Debra, admitted through connections, and Jordan, known as the most extravagant and violent kid in upper-class circles, were both believed to have gained admission through bribery.
โAfter class, wait for me at the exit,โ Jordan suddenly said. Debra gave no response.
The self-introductions quickly ended. Right after class, Jordan walked out of the classroom because Randy was constantly monitoring him. Debra intentionally slowed down, pretending to tidy her notes. After everyone left, Randy came down from the podium and asked, โHow did you provoke Jordan?โ
โProvoke? I havenโt,โ Debra replied innocently.
โCome on! I saw it. You deliberately got close to Jordan, but I advise you not to provoke that guy. Heโs backed by Andrew Potter,โ Randy said.
