Chapter 370
The Odom and Blair families shared a rich history, their bond strengthened over generations. Years ago, Kate gave birth to a daughter, Jade Blair. However, when her husband, Declan Blair, engaged in an extramarital affair, Kate took their child and vanished. Declan yearned to find his daughter, especially since the Odom and Blair families had arranged a marriage between their children long ago. Despite his efforts, the search yielded no results and eventually stalled.
When Edgar assumed control of the Odom family, he made it his mission to locate Jade. He employed every resource at his disposal, sparing no expense in his quest. Erica was engrossed in the tale and impressed by Edgarโs devotion. Then she looked up and asked Debra, โBut how did you know Edgar was doing this for the Blair family?โ
Debra didnโt know how to respond. She couldnโt reveal that, in her past life, Edgarโs fiancรฉe had died, causing a significant uproar. Instead, she fabricated a story. โI happened to come across the information earlier. I thought it was rather romantic of Edgar to go to such lengths.โ
โRomantics are a rare breed in families like ours. Everything revolves around interests and entanglements,โ Erica disapproved. โI find it hard to believe heโd exert so much effort on a woman heโs never seen. Itโs likely just a media stunt orchestrated by both families.โ
Debra chose not to engage in the speculation. She had grown beyond the naive girl who once chased after Juan. With the clear interests at play between the families, it was evident that Edgarโs support for Sheila was merely a strategic move to align himself with the Blair family.
โWell, donโt mention my injury to Randy,โ Debra requested.
Erica nodded in understanding. โOkay, but I donโt think we can keep it hidden for long. Marion was already back. Given his concern for Debra, he would not spend a week without meeting her. It was only a matter of time before he found out. Besides, Debra still had her duties at the McKinney Group.โ
Erica said, โIโll get some water for you. Then Iโll take you home.โ
Debra nodded, and soon after, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway. Melody, flanked by an entourage of bodyguards, made a grand entrance.
โDebra, so you really are here,โ Melody declared, her voice sharp and accusatory. She looked older, her features etched with lines of worry and anger. She grasped Debraโs arm and demanded, โWhere did you take my great-grandson? Did you harm him? How could you be so cruel?โ
Debra winced, her ears still sensitive from her injury. Melodyโs harshness amplified her discomfort. She frowned, feeling a wave of dizziness wash over her. A nurse rushed into the room, her voice firm yet polite. โMaโam, please, the patient needs to rest. You should leave.โ Before she could come closer, the bodyguards formed a barrier, preventing her from approaching.
โEveryone, look,โ Melody announced dramatically, gesturing towards Debra. โThis woman has kidnapped my pregnant granddaughter-in-law. We donโt know what sheโs done to my great-grandson.โ
