Chapter 387
Debra hadnโt given much thought to her debut. Perhaps Andrew wasnโt taking it too seriously. Her debut simply fit the public sentiment and could boost the Potter family and the McKinney Group. Besides, she had never seen any contract clauses mentioning penalty fees for withdrawing from training.
On her first day, Debra familiarized herself with the environment. At night, Hannah handed her a stack of trainee profiles. A few faces stood out: Freya George, the lead girl, possessed an air of cold detachment; Eve Cameron, the chairmanโs daughter; and Ashley Steele, the sweet-faced girl. These three were undoubtedly the strongest contenders. The rest seemed to blend into the background, lacking the spark that set the top three apart.
Debra had long been aware that the entertainment industry was little more than a playground for the elite. However, she hadnโt expected that even a public selection would be predetermined. In this so-called nationwide selection, the Potter Group had already decided that only four trainees, including Debra, would receive proper training.
Debra returned to her apartment and collapsed onto the sofa, exhausted. On her first day at Potter Entertainment, she already felt the weight of their influence. Potter Entertainment was just a subsidiary of the Potter Group, yet it was run with such adeptness. It seemed that declaring the Frazier Group bankrupt had been the right decision. Limited by its size, she would have found it difficult to lead newcomers into showbiz and expand internationally.
Her phone rang; Michaelโs name flashed across the screen. Debra answered, her voice laced with fatigue. โHello?โ
โI heard you were hired by the Potter Group,โ Michael said, his voice carrying its usual briskness.
โYeah,โ Debra replied, sitting up. โIโm starting to regret it.โ
โWhy is that?โ Michael asked, his curiosity piqued.
โIf youโd joined the Potter Group, your future would be bright,โ Debra replied.
There was a pause before Michael spoke again. โDonโt forget our agreement. Iโll only be your partner.โ
โHow could I forget?โ Debra chuckled. โI plan to keep the cash cow all to myself.โ
A light laugh echoed from the other end of the line.
โIs this why you called so late?โ Debra asked.
โIโm going to the Potter Group tomorrow,โ Michael replied.
Debra put her phone on speaker, looking at the itinerary Michaelโs manager had sent her. โYour itinerary doesnโt have that listed. What are you coming for?โ
Her tone was filled with suspicion. Michael explained, โAndrew called me and said I must help enlighten the trainees with the rules of showbiz.โ
โAndrewโฆโ Debra muttered, finding it strange. Andrew was the decision-maker with countless daily tasks, yet he had the energy for her business.
โIf you come to supervise my training tomorrow, youโre going to regret it,โ Debra sighed, hanging up the phone.
The next morning, before dawn, the doorbell rang. Debra opened the door to find several women in professional outfits standing outside.
โMs. Frazier,โ one greeted, โweโve been sent by Mr. Andrew Potter to pack your things.โ
โPack my things? For what?โ Debra asked in surprise.
โYouโll be moving to the traineesโ dormitory,โ they explained.
