Chapter 4
The room fell silent for a moment. Marion smirked and said, โMrs. Nichols, you canโt wrongly accuse good people.โ
โYeah, weโre all legitimate businessmen,โ Randy chimed in.
โIn the realm of legitimate business, itโs not up to me to judge. But I think Juan might be interested,โ Debra said. โIโm just a clueless rich girl, while Juan isnโt. If I tell him what happened, I wonder if heโll take notice.โ
โYouโre sneaky!โ Randy couldnโt contain his frustration.
Debra looked at Marion seriously. โLend me eight billion, and Iโll pay you back with interest in three years.โ
Randyโs eyes widened. โAre you kidding? Do you know how much interest thatโll be? If you back out, weโll lose eight billion dollars. Youโre Juanโs wife. Who can hold you accountable?โ
โI know the interest. Iโll sign a contract with you. If I canโt repay, Iโll give you my familyโs properties and stocks, and Iโll work for you for the rest of my life.โ Randy paused and continued, โAnd besides, my marriage with Juan might not last three years. Even if Iโm still his wife then, he wonโt protect me.โ
Marion looked up and stared at Debra for a while. Randyโs ears perked up as he smelled gossip, but he quickly composed himself. โNo, I disagree!โ
But Marion agreed, โOkay, Iโll lend it to you.โ
โWhat?โ Randy jumped up from his chair. โHave you gone mad?โ
โIโll have the finance department transfer the money to you. Weโll draft the contract later,โ Marion said.
โMarion! Damn!โ Randy stomped his foot.
โThank you, Mr. Houston,โ Debra said, standing up. โIโll await your message. Happy cooperation.โ She smiled and left the office.
Randy ground his teeth. โThatโs eight billion dollars! Are you out of your mind? Sheโs Juanโs wife! Why would you lend her money?โ
Marion grinned. โSheโs pretty.โ
โDamn it! Why should you get the girl while I pay?โ Randy exclaimed.
Marion stood up, slapped a bank card on Randyโs chest, and said, โI pursue the woman I fancy. Itโs only right that I foot the bill.โ
โWhat? Foot the bill? Sheโs Juanโs wife! What bill are you talking about?โ Randy ranted.
Ignoring his protest, Marion walked out of the office.
โBoth of you are insane!โ Randy muttered.
Chapter 4
Debra had just stepped into the Nichols family mansion when she saw Juan sitting in the living room. She frowned. In her last life, Juan rarely came home. When did he become so attached to home?
Assuming he was just lounging around, she turned to go upstairs.
โDebra!โ Juan called out.
Debra halted. โWhat is it?โ
Juan felt uneasy about Debraโs recent coldness. โThe auction house is pressing for payment.โ
โI know,โ Debra replied coolly.
โIf you donโt have enough money, you can tell me,โ Juan said.
โNo need. Iโve sorted it out,โ Debra said dismissively.
โWhere did you get the money from?โ
Ten billion dollars wasnโt a small amount, and Juan knew every movable asset under the Frazier family name. She couldnโt produce such a sum on short notice.
โItโs my business. You donโt need to concern yourself,โ Debra replied.
โDonโt forget that Iโm your husband,โ Juan said.
Debra chuckled bitterly. โHusband?โ Juan always considered their marriage a disgrace. When did he remember he was her husband?
โYouโre so anxious because youโre afraid Iโll lose money and drag down the Nichols family,โ Debra said.
Juan fell silent. Seeing his reaction, Debra knew she had guessed right.
โI wonโt drag you down. I understand our marriage is a business alliance. We rise and fall together. You donโt have to come home often,โ Debra concluded.
Juan was speechless. He used to think that way, so after getting married, he was cold towards Debra and didnโt even touch her. But after hearing those words from Debra, he suddenly realized his excessiveness.
Juan was about to say something when suddenly a remittance message appeared on Debraโs phone. She didnโt expect Marionโs actions to be so fast. In just an hour, the money arrived.
Chapter 4
With the matter resolved, Debra gave a smile. Juan pursed his lips, suddenly remembering how Debra used to follow him. She showed him the same smile, but he never cared.
โThereโs a party tonight. Youโre coming with me.โ
โMe?โ Debra frowned.
Juan asked, โDonโt want to?โ
โWhy donโt you bring Shelia with you?โ Debra was puzzled. In her last life, whenever there was a banquet, Juan would take Shelia. If her memory served her right, it was an international banquet that night. She insisted on going, but Juan brought Shelia in the end, indirectly paving the way for her. For such an important occasion, why would Juan suddenly think of bringing her?
โYouโre my wife, so naturally, you should come to such occasions with me.โ
Debra didnโt buy it, thinking it was only because Shelia had something else to do. Then again, she should go to such occasions more often. To start her own business, she needed connections.
โAlright then, Iโll go get ready.โ
Juan breathed a sigh of relief. At least, Debra was still willing to be the nominal Mrs. Nichols. Perhaps she wasnโt completely disappointed with him yet.
Shelia was in the dormitory, arranging the dress sent by Juanโs secretary. Her roommates looked at Shelia with envy.
โShelia, your boyfriend is so sweet, giving you such a beautiful dress.โ Sheliaโs cheeks turned rosy.
โShelia, when will you introduce us to your boyfriend?โ
โYeah, your boyfriend is so rich, and he takes you to various banquets all the time. Weโre curious.โ
Shelia shook her head and said, โHeโs very busy. Iโll introduce you to him when heโs free.โ
Sheliaโs phone rang. Seeing that it was a call from Juanโs secretary, she answered the phone happily.
โJoe, did Mr. Nichols send you to pick me up? Iโll come down right away,โ she said.
โMr. Nichols said you donโt need to come today,โ said Joe.
