Chapter 4

The room fell silent for a moment. Marion smirked and said, โ€œMrs. Nichols, you canโ€™t wrongly accuse good people.โ€

โ€œYeah, weโ€™re all legitimate businessmen,โ€ Randy chimed in.

โ€œIn the realm of legitimate business, itโ€™s not up to me to judge. But I think Juan might be interested,โ€ Debra said. โ€œIโ€™m just a clueless rich girl, while Juan isnโ€™t. If I tell him what happened, I wonder if heโ€™ll take notice.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re sneaky!โ€ Randy couldnโ€™t contain his frustration.

Debra looked at Marion seriously. โ€œLend me eight billion, and Iโ€™ll pay you back with interest in three years.โ€

Randyโ€™s eyes widened. โ€œAre you kidding? Do you know how much interest thatโ€™ll be? If you back out, weโ€™ll lose eight billion dollars. Youโ€™re Juanโ€™s wife. Who can hold you accountable?โ€

โ€œI know the interest. Iโ€™ll sign a contract with you. If I canโ€™t repay, Iโ€™ll give you my familyโ€™s properties and stocks, and Iโ€™ll work for you for the rest of my life.โ€ Randy paused and continued, โ€œAnd besides, my marriage with Juan might not last three years. Even if Iโ€™m still his wife then, he wonโ€™t protect me.โ€

Marion looked up and stared at Debra for a while. Randyโ€™s ears perked up as he smelled gossip, but he quickly composed himself. โ€œNo, I disagree!โ€

But Marion agreed, โ€œOkay, Iโ€™ll lend it to you.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Randy jumped up from his chair. โ€œHave you gone mad?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll have the finance department transfer the money to you. Weโ€™ll draft the contract later,โ€ Marion said.

โ€œMarion! Damn!โ€ Randy stomped his foot.

โ€œThank you, Mr. Houston,โ€ Debra said, standing up. โ€œIโ€™ll await your message. Happy cooperation.โ€ She smiled and left the office.

Randy ground his teeth. โ€œThatโ€™s eight billion dollars! Are you out of your mind? Sheโ€™s Juanโ€™s wife! Why would you lend her money?โ€

Marion grinned. โ€œSheโ€™s pretty.โ€

โ€œDamn it! Why should you get the girl while I pay?โ€ Randy exclaimed.

Marion stood up, slapped a bank card on Randyโ€™s chest, and said, โ€œI pursue the woman I fancy. Itโ€™s only right that I foot the bill.โ€

โ€œWhat? Foot the bill? Sheโ€™s Juanโ€™s wife! What bill are you talking about?โ€ Randy ranted.

Ignoring his protest, Marion walked out of the office.

โ€œBoth of you are insane!โ€ Randy muttered.

Chapter 4

Debra had just stepped into the Nichols family mansion when she saw Juan sitting in the living room. She frowned. In her last life, Juan rarely came home. When did he become so attached to home?

Assuming he was just lounging around, she turned to go upstairs.

โ€œDebra!โ€ Juan called out.

Debra halted. โ€œWhat is it?โ€

Juan felt uneasy about Debraโ€™s recent coldness. โ€œThe auction house is pressing for payment.โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ Debra replied coolly.

โ€œIf you donโ€™t have enough money, you can tell me,โ€ Juan said.

โ€œNo need. Iโ€™ve sorted it out,โ€ Debra said dismissively.

โ€œWhere did you get the money from?โ€

Ten billion dollars wasnโ€™t a small amount, and Juan knew every movable asset under the Frazier family name. She couldnโ€™t produce such a sum on short notice.

โ€œItโ€™s my business. You donโ€™t need to concern yourself,โ€ Debra replied.

โ€œDonโ€™t forget that Iโ€™m your husband,โ€ Juan said.

Debra chuckled bitterly. โ€œHusband?โ€ Juan always considered their marriage a disgrace. When did he remember he was her husband?

โ€œYouโ€™re so anxious because youโ€™re afraid Iโ€™ll lose money and drag down the Nichols family,โ€ Debra said.

Juan fell silent. Seeing his reaction, Debra knew she had guessed right.

โ€œI wonโ€™t drag you down. I understand our marriage is a business alliance. We rise and fall together. You donโ€™t have to come home often,โ€ Debra concluded.

Juan was speechless. He used to think that way, so after getting married, he was cold towards Debra and didnโ€™t even touch her. But after hearing those words from Debra, he suddenly realized his excessiveness.

Juan was about to say something when suddenly a remittance message appeared on Debraโ€™s phone. She didnโ€™t expect Marionโ€™s actions to be so fast. In just an hour, the money arrived.

With the matter resolved, Debra gave a smile. Juan pursed his lips, suddenly remembering how Debra used to follow him. She showed him the same smile, but he never cared.

โ€œThereโ€™s a party tonight. Youโ€™re coming with me.โ€

โ€œMe?โ€ Debra frowned.

Juan asked, โ€œDonโ€™t want to?โ€

โ€œWhy donโ€™t you bring Shelia with you?โ€ Debra was puzzled. In her last life, whenever there was a banquet, Juan would take Shelia. If her memory served her right, it was an international banquet that night. She insisted on going, but Juan brought Shelia in the end, indirectly paving the way for her. For such an important occasion, why would Juan suddenly think of bringing her?

โ€œYouโ€™re my wife, so naturally, you should come to such occasions with me.โ€

Debra didnโ€™t buy it, thinking it was only because Shelia had something else to do. Then again, she should go to such occasions more often. To start her own business, she needed connections.

โ€œAlright then, Iโ€™ll go get ready.โ€

Juan breathed a sigh of relief. At least, Debra was still willing to be the nominal Mrs. Nichols. Perhaps she wasnโ€™t completely disappointed with him yet.

Shelia was in the dormitory, arranging the dress sent by Juanโ€™s secretary. Her roommates looked at Shelia with envy.

โ€œShelia, your boyfriend is so sweet, giving you such a beautiful dress.โ€ Sheliaโ€™s cheeks turned rosy.

โ€œShelia, when will you introduce us to your boyfriend?โ€

โ€œYeah, your boyfriend is so rich, and he takes you to various banquets all the time. Weโ€™re curious.โ€

Shelia shook her head and said, โ€œHeโ€™s very busy. Iโ€™ll introduce you to him when heโ€™s free.โ€

Sheliaโ€™s phone rang. Seeing that it was a call from Juanโ€™s secretary, she answered the phone happily.

โ€œJoe, did Mr. Nichols send you to pick me up? Iโ€™ll come down right away,โ€ she said.

โ€œMr. Nichols said you donโ€™t need to come today,โ€ said Joe.
