Chapter 404
As Sheila sauntered off with Edgar, Michael blew out a breath. โThat was daylight robbery.โ
Debra shrugged. โThey started this game. If I didnโt beat them at it, Iโd be their pawn.โ
โSo, is this settled?โ
โNot quite.โ
โBut you justโฆโ
โIs there a signed agreement?โ
โI didnโt realize you were so calculating.โ
โI learned from the best.โ
โWho?โ
Debraโs mind flashed to Marion, but she sealed her lips and rose from her seat. โYour problem is solved. Once the money comes in, Iโll wire it to you.โ
โOkay.โ
Debra called Hannah, who promptly sent a car. As she stepped into the practice room, the chatter hushed, all eyes zeroing in on her. Hannah waved her in. โDebra, come in.โ
Eveโs voice sliced through the silence. โWell, well, look who decided to grace us with her presence. Did you spend the night charming a sponsor? Itโs nearly noon.โ
Ashley sidled up to Debra, circling her like a vulture. โCanโt blame her. Her family is broke, and she owes a fortune. Whatโs a girl to do but use her assets?โ
Eve snickered. โExactly. Sheโs here to be a star, paying off her debts.โ
โItโs different for her. You came down to be a trainee, but sheโs a broke lady. If she didnโt come to be a trainee, what else could she do?โ Ashley raised her eyebrows. โI heard she went to Arcane Academy.โ
โArcane Academy? Yet her family still went belly up. I remember there were rumors she bought her way in, relying on Juanโs connections. Now Juan doesnโt want her anymore, so what does she have left?โ
Laughter erupted. Hannah, standing at the door, scowled. โThatโs enough. If youโve got so much energy to burn, go run laps outside.โ
The room quieted, the girls returning to their stretches. Debra brushed off the remarks. Sheโd weathered worse storms.
Hannah cleared her throat. โYouโve been training for almost a month. The companyโs giving you a shot at screen time. Blow it, and it might be your last.โ
Freya perked up. โWhatโs the gig? Do we need to showcase any talents?โ
The other girls were also eager to know.
Hannah held up a hand. โDetails to come. For now, shed those extra pounds. The camera adds ten, remember? No one wants to be a blimp on screen.โ Her gaze flicked to Eve, barely perceptible but sharp as a blade.
