Chapter 429

Eve heard her fatherโ€™s summons and skipped over, her face lighting up. โ€œHello, Mr. Odom. Iโ€™m Eve Cameron.โ€

Henry introduced her. Edgar, with a polite smile, responded, โ€œAh, I didnโ€™t expect your daughter to be here as an intern. A pleasure to meet you, Miss Cameron.โ€

Eve blushed, her heart fluttering. Before she could speak, Henry steered her aside. โ€œMr. Odom, allow me to introduce the team leader, Freya George.โ€

Edgarโ€™s eyes gleamed with interest. โ€œImpressive. There arenโ€™t many with such a commanding presence in this industry. I believe Miss George will shoot to stardom.โ€

Everyone was surprised by Edgarโ€™s praise. Debra, however, remained unimpressed. Freya had confronted her earlier out of jealousy, and now Edgar seemed to be trying to influence Oscar through Freya. Unaware of Edgarโ€™s motives, Freya basked in the compliments.

Edgar turned to Debra. โ€œMs. Frazier, your looks stand out. Would you grace us with a dance?โ€ His mocking smile betrayed his intention to embarrass her.

Debra was about to refuse, but Henry interjected, โ€œOf course. Debraโ€™s dancing skills are exceptional. Even the instructor praises her constantly.โ€

โ€œDad!โ€ Eve scowled, her displeasure evident.

Noticing her expression, Henry attempted damage control. โ€œMr. Odom, if you are skeptical, you can see for yourself. Our trainees are the best.โ€

โ€œSince Eve seems less than thrilled, perhaps sheโ€™d like to dance in Ms. Frazierโ€™s stead,โ€ Debra offered, deflecting the request.

Before Eve could react, Edgar insisted, โ€œI really want to see Ms. Frazier dance.โ€

The atmosphere thickened. Seeing Debraโ€™s reluctance, Henry improvised. โ€œOh, silly me. I forgot Debra sprained her ankle yesterday. She canโ€™t dance today.โ€

โ€œReally? What a pity!โ€ Edgar said thoughtfully. โ€œI suppose weโ€™ll have to wait until her foot heals. Then she can dance for me, and we can discuss the investment.โ€

The pressure was intense. Henry looked pleadingly at Debra, who smiled. โ€œItโ€™s just a dance, Mr. Odom. If thatโ€™s all it takes to secure your investment, why not just give me the money directly?โ€

โ€œHow much would it take for you to dance?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m in a bit of a financial pickle, so how about five billion?โ€
