Chapter 473

Tears welled up in Sheila's eyes. For years, she had been the epitome of obedience and docility by Juan's side. He had once showered her with affection, making her feel like she was on top of the world. But now, that love had been cruelly withdrawn, leaving her in despair.

โ€œYou know best what happened that night,โ€ she said.

Juan clenched his fists, regret washing over him. He had shown Sheila sympathy and, in a moment of weakness, fallen into her trap, losing his chance with Debra. He knew Debra would never forgive him; there was no way she could accept him now.

โ€œYou used to dote on me so much,โ€ Sheila choked out. โ€œWhen I said I was tired from studying, youโ€™d take me out to relax, even if you were busy. When I said I was hungry, youโ€™d send Joe to take me out for a meal. You introduced me to all the big shots in business and taught me how to handle myself. Iโ€™ve been with you for so many years, even longer than Debra has known you. So, why are you treating me like this?โ€ Juanโ€™s gaze grew colder as she brought up the past. โ€œIf it werenโ€™t for old feelings, do you think youโ€™d still be lying here as Miss Blair?โ€

Sheila pleaded, โ€œI was wrong. Iโ€™m willing to do anything you ask. Iโ€™ll be better and help you make money. I donโ€™t want to be Miss Blair. Just let me stay by your side, even as a minor secretary.โ€

She searched his eyes, hoping to find even a sliver of sympathy. Over the years, she had followed him closely and knew that beneath his cold and unfeeling exterior, Juan had a soft heart. If she hadnโ€™t acted impulsively and drugged him, he wouldnโ€™t have severed ties with her.

She tugged at his sleeve and continued, โ€œYou wouldnโ€™t just watch me die, would you?โ€

Edgar, refined on the surface but ruthless at heart, had been discredited by the failure to frame Debra, losing his biggest bargaining chip. Without Juanโ€™s protection, she would be killed by Edgar.

Her pitiful look reminded him of a similar scene from years ago. Back then, when he and Debra had just married, he rarely went home. One night, Debra had reached out and grabbed his sleeve, looking at him with pleading eyes. โ€œJuan, please stay tonight.โ€

But all he had for Debra was indifference. He had cruelly shaken off her hand and left the room, leaving behind only the cold sound of the door closing.

Suddenly, his mind flashed to the hickeys on Debraโ€™s neck. He remembered the cold look in her eyes as she said, โ€œJuan, I donโ€™t love you anymore.โ€ That one sentence felt like a fresh blow to his heart.
