Chapter 510
Andrewโs car pulled up outside the apartment building. Debra got out, her heart heavy. Reaching the entrance, the security guard hurried over, his voice urgent.
โMs. Frazier.โ
โWhatโs up?โ
โYouโve got a visitor. Heโs been here for over an hour,โ the guard said, jerking his thumb toward the reception room.
Through the glass, Debra saw Marion sitting inside.
โI donโt know him. Tell him to leave.โ
โOkay.โ
The guard nodded, starting to turn away before Debraโs voice stopped him. โWait.โ
โMaโam?โ
โLet him in.โ
The guard blinked, clearly surprised.
โMs. Frazier, if heโs bothering you, we can help you get rid of him.โ
โNo, heโs my boyfriend.โ
โHuh?โ
The guardโs jaw dropped. He glanced down at his phone, where a news alert blared the news of Juan and Debraโs reconciliation. However, the man in the reception room didnโt look like Juan. He scratched his head and went back. โMr. Nichols, your wife will see you now.โ
โWhat did you call me?โ
โMr. Nichols?โ
Marion glared at him. The guard was bewildered.
Debra led the way to the elevator, Marion following silently. The ride up was tense, the air thick with unspoken words.
Debra stepped out first, unlocking her apartment door. She looked back at Marion, who was standing at the other end of the corridor.
โHow long are you planning to follow me?โ
Marion opened his mouth and then closed it again. He didnโt know how to respond.
โCome in or leave. I donโt need a gatekeeper.โ
Marion finally smiled and followed her into the room. Debra went to the kitchen, and he followed, eager to cook for her. When Debra started sweeping, he put down his spatula and rushed to help.
Exasperated, Debra turned to face him. โMarion, what do you want?โ
He stood there, silent and uncertain. Debra threw up her hands, her voice tinged with frustration.
โIf you canโt tell me what you want, you might as well leave.โ
โDebraโฆโ
She cut him off, her hand on the doorknob. โIf youโre not leaving, then I will.โ
In an instant, Marion was beside her, his arms wrapping around her tightly, as if afraid she would slip away. Debra struggled briefly before surrendering. โIs there something you canโt tell me?โ
Marionโs voice was low, filled with regret. โIโm sorry.โ

She sighed. โI wanted a simple life. Iโm ready to face whatever comes our way. But you have to be open with me. Iโm not some fragile thing that needs protecting. I need to know what weโre up against.โ
Marion nodded. โI know.โ
