Chapter 540
Joe hesitated, and Debra quickly reassured him, โDonโt worry. Iโm just going to have a simple conversation with them. It wonโt involve your boss.โ
Joe bowed his head. โYes, maโam.โ
The Vargas family, basking in the glow of their newly signed contract, hadnโt anticipated Debraโs arrival. When the maid announced her presence, the mood in the house shifted immediately.
Jenson frowned deeply. โWhatโs she doing here?โ
Lauren Vargas chimed in, โMaybe we should just send her away. Sheโs Juanโs wife, after all. Sheโs probably here to speak on behalf of the Nichols family.โ
Jenson nodded in agreement. โYeah. Letโs get rid of her.โ
But Hester interrupted, โMaybe we should let her in.โ
Lauren turned on her, shocked. โDonโt be foolish. Donโt you realize why sheโs here? Sheโs probably going to plead on behalf of the Nichols family.โ
Hester shook her head. โNo, thatโs not true. Debra reminded me to demand that contract in the first place. Without her advice, we wouldnโt have had the leverage to negotiate with the Nichols. Maybe sheโs here to help us again.โ
Jensonโs expression softened. โAlright, send her in. Iโm curious to know what sheโs up to.โ
The housekeeper quickly brought Debra into the room. As she entered, Jenson adopted a cold, distant air. โOur family is a small and humble household. Itโs quite something for you to visit, Mrs. Nichols. But if youโre here to ask us to forgive Melody, thereโs no need for this conversation to continue.โ
Debra smiled, undeterred. โMr. Vargas, donโt you think itโs a bit premature to assume why Iโm here before Iโve even spoken?โ
Lauren rose from her seat and stepped forward. โMs. Frazier, do you remember me? Weโve met before, havenโt we?โ
Debra maintained her polite smile. โOf course, Mrs. Vargas. Iโve heard of the close bond between you and Mr. Vargas. Youโre quite the model couple. Iโm sure weโve crossed paths a few times.โ
Lauren beamed, nodding. โHester told us that it was thanks to your help she was able to secure the contract and avoid being pushed around by the Nichols. We owe you a big thank you.โ
โNo need for thanks. I was just looking out for myself, too,โ Debra responded, taking a ring box from her bag. She opened the lid, revealing a sapphire ring. Knowing jewels, Lauren couldnโt hide her awe.
โMelody sent me to deliver this ring to you,โ Debra said. โShe said it once belonged to royalty over a hundred years ago.โ As expected, every eye in the room lit up with greed. The ring was priceless.
Lauren took the ring and examined it. โThis must be worth billions.โ
Debra nodded. โMelody intends to use it as payment for her debt. Iโve brought it here today to discuss a deal with your family.โ
The roomโs energy shifted, and Jenson adopted a serious expression.
โSo, are you here to speak on behalf of the Nichols family?โ
โOf course not. If I were here for their sake, I wouldnโt have shown Hester how to protect her rights in the first place.โ
