Chapter 572
Spoke of the devil, and he called.
โI need to take this call,โ Debra said, getting up and moving to the side.
โMr. Andrew Potter, whatโs up?โ
โCome to my office.โ
โWhatโs so urgent that it canโt wait?โ
โIโve already sent someone to pick you up. They should be there now.โ
โBut Iโm at Mr. Houston Sr.โs house.โ
โI know.โ
His calm, measured voice was unnerving, as if he knew her every move. Debraโs brows furrowed even deeper.
โIs this necessary?โ
โBring Marion with you.โ
Before Debra could respond, Andrew hung up. She glanced at Marion and walked back.
โMr. Houston Sr., I have some business to take care of with Marion. We need to leave.โ
Marion stood up without hesitation, seemingly ready to leave long before Debra mentioned it. Although Caleb looked a little disappointed, he didnโt try to keep them. With a sigh, he waved for someone to escort them out.
As they stepped through the gate, a sleek luxury car waited at the edge of the driveway. Debra immediately recognized it as one of Andrewโs. They got into the car, taking the backseat.
The Potter Groupโs headquarters was always bustling, but today seemed unusually hectic. Upon arriving, Debra and Marion were ushered into a conference room. There, Andrew sat with an uncharacteristically grim expression.
โDrake is here,โ he announced.
At the mention of the name, a chill ran down Debraโs spine. She knew the name wellโtoo well. Drake was infamous both domestically and internationally. Even in her previous life, Debra had heard of him. If Marion was a king who fought his way to power through bloodshed, then Drake was the shadowy puppeteer behind the scenes, controlling everything from the darkness. Even though Marion was involved in the underworld, he had a strict code for his men. Drugs, gambling, and trafficking were prohibited. Drake was different. He was the embodiment of vice. His empire was built on broken lives, destroyed families, and shattered dreams.
She wondered what Drake was doing here in Seamar City. According to her past-life memories, he should have had no connection to this city. She narrowed her eyes and asked, โDrake is based in Orkgate. Why would he suddenly come to Seamar City?โ
Andrew replied, โOfficially, heโs here on vacation. But who knows what his real agenda is?โ He turned his gaze to Marion and added, โThis is an opportunity. We need to move faster.โ
โHow long is he staying?โ
โA month.โ
Debra could tell something was off. โWho takes a month-long vacation just to visit another city? Drake doesnโt seem like the type to have that much free time.โ
Andrew gave a casual shrug. โMaybe he wants to check out Seamar Cityโs beaches. After all, Orkgate is landlocked.โ
Debra rolled her eyes. That was impossible; someone like Drake wouldnโt care about beaches. She looked straight at Andrew. โYouโve already got a plan, right?โ
โYes,โ he admitted with a grin. โBut Iโll need your help.โ
Debraโs eyes hardened. โYou mentioned before that Drakeโs company had a hand in luring Ralph into gambling, which ultimately led to my and Marionโs parentsโ deaths. If thatโs the case, itโs not me whoโs doing you a favor. Weโre all in this together.โ
