Chapter 593
Debra took a couple of steps back and asked casually, โHow about we just chat for a bit?โ
โChatโฆโ Juan started to respond, but hesitated. He wasnโt exactly the best at small talk. Still, with Debra in front of him, the only thing running through his mind was the question he always wanted to ask: โWhat is going on between you and Marion now?โ
Instead, he said, โHow have you been lately?โ
โGood,โ Debra answered without much thought. โAnd you?โ
โNot so good.โ
Her eyebrows shot up in surprise at his blunt answer. Pausing, she glanced up at the camera and said, โCut that part out. Iโll ask again.โ
Playing it cool, she repeated the question, โSo, how have you been lately?โ
Watching her busy herself with cooking, Juan realized she was just trying to get some material for the show. He let out a soft laugh and replied, โGreat.โ
โGood to hear,โ Debra said, turning her attention back to the stew.
The day had slipped by, and the sky would darken in a few hours. According to the production team, the night sky by the coast here was supposed to be stunning.
Later, Debra and Juan sat outside on the porch, the cool sea breeze brushing their faces. Juan thoughtfully draped a blanket over her shoulders.
Inside the production tent, the team couldnโt help but smile at the peaceful scene on the monitor. One of the crew members glanced at the phone buzzing on the table and quickly called out to the director.
โBoss, someoneโs calling you.โ
The director rushed over, seeing an unknown number flashing on the screen.
โWhoโs this?โ
โMarion Houston.โ
The director didnโt even pause before hanging up. A nearby staff member blinked in confusion.
โWho was that? Whyโd you hang up?โ
โSome scam call. Not worth answering.โ
There was no way someone like Marion would ever call a nobody like him. โThe scammers these days are getting ridiculous,โ he thought.
At home, Marion stared at his phone, his face darkening. Randy noticed Marionโs expression and cleared his throat.
โSee, this is why you shouldโve let me handle it. Iโve got secretaries who couldโve made that call. You dial someone up out of the blue like that, and theyโre gonna think itโs a scam.โ
Marion shot him a glare. โBook me a ticket to the island.โ
โNo can do,โ Randy responded seriously. โAndrew made it clear. Youโre not allowed to fly over, no matter what.โ
Marionโs gaze grew even colder as he asked icily, โWho are you more afraid of? Andrew or me?โ
Randy swallowed hard. In terms of scheming and power, he was terrified of Andrew. But in terms of sheer physical force? Marion scared him more.
With a nervous laugh, Randy tried to reason with him. โCome on, man, donโt get all worked up. You trust Debra, donโt you? Sheโs not the type to castโฆโ
โCast?โ
Randy fumbled for better wording. โUh, rekindle an old flame?โ
โRekindle an old flame?โ
Marionโs voice dropped dangerously low as his hand gripped Randyโs shoulder. โYou have ten minutes to get me that plane ticket, or elseโฆโ
