Chapter 60

In her previous life, after marrying Juan, Debra followed Melodyโ€™s advice that the way to a manโ€™s heart was through his stomach. So, despite never having touched a household chore, she started cooking various dishes. But Juan never tried her cooking. He loved Sheila more.

When breakfast was ready, Juan noticed nothing was prepared for him. Frowning, he asked, โ€œWhereโ€™s mine?โ€

โ€œCook for yourself,โ€ Debra replied indifferently.

Juan was annoyed. โ€œDebra Frazier!โ€

Debra ignored him, nibbling on her bread. Since she no longer cared for him, she saw no reason to please him.

โ€œIโ€™m done,โ€ she said, finishing her meal. She took the dishes to the kitchen and prepared to leave with her bag.

Juan asked, โ€œWhere are you going?โ€

โ€œI have class this morning.โ€

โ€œTake the day off.โ€

โ€œAre you sick?โ€ Debra finally lost her temper. Juan had been unusually hostile that morning. Heโ€™d given their housekeeper the day off, then demanded breakfast, and now he wanted her to skip class.

After a moment of silence, Juan asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s going on with that piece of land?โ€

Finally, he got down to business. Debra had thought he wouldnโ€™t ask. That explained his strange behavior. It was all about money.

โ€œIโ€™ve sold it,โ€ Debra replied.

โ€œWhat? To whom?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s my business. I donโ€™t need to explain to you.โ€

โ€œDebra!โ€ Juanโ€™s voice grew colder. โ€œDo you know how much that land is worth now?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know. I just knew Iโ€™d held onto it for so long, and when the chance came to sell, I took it.โ€

โ€œYou!โ€ Juanโ€™s frustrated look amused Debra.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong, Mr. Nichols? Didnโ€™t you look down on that land before? Suddenly finding it valuable?โ€

Juan took a deep breath. โ€œWho did you sell it to?โ€

Debra remained silent, and he asked again, โ€œDid you know beforehand that the land would be designated as green space?โ€ He had spent all night thinking: there was no other explanation. Only a lunatic would buy a piece of sewage land for ten billion dollars. Before, he thought Debra was crazy, but now he suspected she had done this on purpose.

โ€œNo kidding. I donโ€™t have your foresight or vision. How could I plan that? I just sold the land on a whim. Youโ€™re overthinking it,โ€ Debra said sincerely.

For a moment, Juan doubted himself. Maybe he had indeed overthought it.

Met with his silence, Debra didnโ€™t want to continue the topic. โ€œCan I go now?โ€

โ€œNo, you canโ€™t.โ€

โ€œIs there anything else?โ€ Debra glanced at the time. It was a long way from there to Arcane Academy. Sheโ€™d be late if she didnโ€™t leave immediately.

โ€œI asked Joe to help you ask for leave. Go shopping with me later.โ€

โ€œShopping?โ€ She stared at him in disbelief.

Juan couldnโ€™t bear that look. He enunciated, โ€œDo you think one public display of affection is enough? Do you know how much damage your nightclub rendezvous has done to the company?โ€
