Chapter 60
In her previous life, after marrying Juan, Debra followed Melodyโs advice that the way to a manโs heart was through his stomach. So, despite never having touched a household chore, she started cooking various dishes. But Juan never tried her cooking. He loved Sheila more.
When breakfast was ready, Juan noticed nothing was prepared for him. Frowning, he asked, โWhereโs mine?โ
โCook for yourself,โ Debra replied indifferently.
Juan was annoyed. โDebra Frazier!โ
Debra ignored him, nibbling on her bread. Since she no longer cared for him, she saw no reason to please him.
โIโm done,โ she said, finishing her meal. She took the dishes to the kitchen and prepared to leave with her bag.
Juan asked, โWhere are you going?โ
โI have class this morning.โ
โTake the day off.โ
โAre you sick?โ Debra finally lost her temper. Juan had been unusually hostile that morning. Heโd given their housekeeper the day off, then demanded breakfast, and now he wanted her to skip class.
After a moment of silence, Juan asked, โWhatโs going on with that piece of land?โ
Finally, he got down to business. Debra had thought he wouldnโt ask. That explained his strange behavior. It was all about money.
โIโve sold it,โ Debra replied.
โWhat? To whom?โ
โItโs my business. I donโt need to explain to you.โ
โDebra!โ Juanโs voice grew colder. โDo you know how much that land is worth now?โ
โI donโt know. I just knew Iโd held onto it for so long, and when the chance came to sell, I took it.โ
โYou!โ Juanโs frustrated look amused Debra.

โWhatโs wrong, Mr. Nichols? Didnโt you look down on that land before? Suddenly finding it valuable?โ
Juan took a deep breath. โWho did you sell it to?โ
Debra remained silent, and he asked again, โDid you know beforehand that the land would be designated as green space?โ He had spent all night thinking: there was no other explanation. Only a lunatic would buy a piece of sewage land for ten billion dollars. Before, he thought Debra was crazy, but now he suspected she had done this on purpose.
โNo kidding. I donโt have your foresight or vision. How could I plan that? I just sold the land on a whim. Youโre overthinking it,โ Debra said sincerely.
For a moment, Juan doubted himself. Maybe he had indeed overthought it.
Met with his silence, Debra didnโt want to continue the topic. โCan I go now?โ
โNo, you canโt.โ
โIs there anything else?โ Debra glanced at the time. It was a long way from there to Arcane Academy. Sheโd be late if she didnโt leave immediately.
โI asked Joe to help you ask for leave. Go shopping with me later.โ
โShopping?โ She stared at him in disbelief.
Juan couldnโt bear that look. He enunciated, โDo you think one public display of affection is enough? Do you know how much damage your nightclub rendezvous has done to the company?โ
