Chapter 689
โWhereโs the surveillance footage?โ
โThere arenโt any. That area was a blind spot, not caught on camera.โ
โIs she one of your fans?โ
โI always keep my schedule private. Only a handful of people know where Iโll be. Iโve never seen her before.โ
Debra realized what was going on. Someone had set Michael up on purpose. Her mind raced, piecing together the timeline. When Michael was framed, Juan was still on the island, which meant he must have arranged things ahead of time. This so-called victim was likely someone from the Nichols Group, and the one behind it was probably Joe.
โSo, theyโve been holding you this whole time?โ
โYes. I believe someone put in a word with the authorities. But I canโt figure out who. In this city, no one usually dares to go up against the McKinney Group.โ
โItโs Juan.โ
Michael was surprised, and Debra added, โIt has to be connected to the Nichols Group.โ
โWas he also behind the accident on the island?โ
โNo, that wasnโt him. Iโm sorry for putting you into this. Donโt worry. Iโll get you out tonight, no matter what. A lot has happened lately. Ben will fill you in on the details.โ
โIโm relieved that youโre fine.โ
Debra looked at him and laughed. Michael was always so meticulous and clean, yet after being locked up for days, his white shirt was dirty, his hair messy, and stubble lined his jaw. If anyone saw him now, theyโd never believe he was an international superstar everyone adored.
Time seemed to stretch out. Finally, the officer knocked on the door.
Chapter 639
โMs. Frazier, the victim has been brought next door. You can question her now.โ
โAlright.โ
Debra stood up, giving Michael a reassuring look before heading to the next room. As she stepped inside, she found herself face to face with a young woman in her twenties. The woman had an unremarkable appearance; her long hair was hastily tied up. She was wearing nothing but pajamas with a coat thrown over them.
The officer closed the door.
The woman looked Debra up and down before sneering. โWell, well, who wouldโve thought the famous Ms. Frazier wanted to see me in the middle of the night? What do you want?โ
Debra countered, โI havenโt introduced myself yet. How did you know who I was? Weโve never met, have we?โ
A flicker of panic flashed across the womanโs face, but she quickly recovered. โWho doesnโt know you? You and Juan were all over the TV after that reality show. Itโs not surprising that Iโd recognize you.โ
What she said seemed reasonable, but Debra didnโt miss the nervous shift in her eyes.
Debra snorted, โYou know, that show didnโt have any leaks or paparazzi shots. And yet, here you are, claiming you know me.โ
The woman avoided her gaze, and Debra pressed.
โDo you follow reality shows?โ
โNo.โ
Debra rested her chin on her hand and said, โThatโs quite strange. I donโt usually post my photos on social media. Iโve appeared in financial news a few times, but how did you figure out who I am? Do you follow financial news?โ
The woman retorted, โSo what if I do? If you have questions, go ask them; I need to go back to sleep.โ
