Chapter 70
Seeing the suspicion in Wendy's eyes, Sheila stiffened, but quickly adopted a look of grievance. โHow could I ever lie to you? Why are you suddenly asking me this?โ
Touched, Wendy softened her tone. โI was just asking. Don't take it to heart.โ
Seeing Sheila on the verge of tears, Wendy held her hand. โThe three of us are good friends. You must never lie to us.โ
โOf course, I would never lie to you,โ Sheila nodded.
โLetโs go to class,โ Wendy said, leading her upstairs.
From behind, Sheila cautiously stared at Wendy's back. No matter what, she couldn't let Wendy and Carrie discover her lie before graduation. Otherwise, her school days would be over.
Upstairs, a crowd gathered at the classroom door. Carrie was also there, but couldn't push through because of her small stature.
โWhatโs going on?โ Wendy asked, stepping forward.
Carrie whispered, โI heard the inspection team from the Ministry of Education is here, and everyone is watching.โ
โInspection team? What are they doing in our class?โ Wendy wondered.
Sheilaโs heart clenched.
โI heard itโs because of the poster on the bulletin board. They sent people to investigate,โ Carrie replied, a tinge of excitement in her voice.
Sheilaโs face turned ashen.
Oblivious, Carrie continued, โThey must think that woman is immoral and unfit to study at our school, so theyโre trying to kick her out!โ
Wendy frowned. โBut if thatโs the case, shouldn't they go to that womanโs class? Why come to ours?โ
Carrie also sensed something strange. โYeah, why come to our class? They should go downstairs.โ
After a while, they both shifted their gaze to Sheila.
Afraid of their suspicion, Sheila quickly spoke up. โCould this be arranged by Jordan? We offended him, and he sent these people to cause trouble.โ
It could be the case. Carrie and Wendy were both worried. They failed to get rid of that woman, and now they had gotten themselves into trouble.
Wendy asked, โDoes Jordan have that much power? Can he make the inspection team distort the truth?โ
โI heard Jordan handed in a blank paper during the exam, but his family pulled strings and got him in, so he might have the power to manipulate the inspection team,โ replied Sheila. Carrie stamped her foot in anger. โThatโs despicable! What should we do?โ
Sheila suggested, โLetโs leave while no oneโs paying attention. Even skipping class is better than getting caught here.โ
โOkay!โ Carrie agreed immediately.
But Wendy hesitated. โIs that a good idea? We havenโt clarified the situation yet. It would be cowardly to leave like this. We havenโt done anything wrong, so thereโs no need to fear false accusations. In front of so many people, they canโt baselessly accuse us.โ
Her words swayed Carrie.
Sheila, however, felt a surge of fear. If she stayed when the inspection team came to investigate the bulletin board postings, she would be exposed.
โWe canโt afford to mess with people who have money and power. Theyโre resourceful and could distort the truth to their advantage,โ Sheila said urgently, seeing neither of them wanted to leave.
