Chapter 736
Standing before Drake, Kale kept his head down. โBoss, this was all Debraโs setup. You have to beโฆโ
โYou said she was takingโฆ Then go ahead andโฆ on her tes in the miles oโฆโ
โOkay.โ
Without hesitation, Kale drew a knife from his belt, bringing it to Debraโs throat. Yet, as the blade hovered dangerously close, Debra remained still.
Kaleโs expression shifted to grim realization. He placed the empty glass down on the table with a sharp clink.
โIn our line of work, if you canโt even tell when someoneโs genuinely unconscious or just pretending, then youโre doing it wrong.โ
The doctorโs earlier examination had left no room for doubt. Drake knew Kale had just lost his judgment in the heat of the moment.
โI understand youโre worried about me,โ Drake continued. โBut sheโs just a woman. No matter how clever she might think she is, she canโt outsmart me here in Orkgate.โ
โYes, sir,โ Kale replied, his voice reluctant but obedient.
Drake waved him off. โItโs late. Go get some sleep.โ
โWhat about tomorrow?โ
โDonโt worry about it. Iโll take her to see the casino.โ
Kale was concerned, but he had to comply. โYes, boss.โ
Once Kale left, Drake approached the bed and patted Debraโs cheek. โWake up.โ
She didnโt stir, and he frowned, clutching her jaw to feed her. But the oatmeal just dribbled down her chin. She lacked the awareness to swallow.
Frustrated, he stood up and paced to the door. He yanked it open, startling Lara, who had been guarding outside.
โBoss? Is there something you need?โ
โI said I wanted her awake in an hour.โ
โThe doctor said she needed rest. Itโs only been twenty minutes, sir. Sheโll wake up soon.โ
โTwenty minutes?โ Drake glanced at the clock on the wall, realizing she had only been unconscious for that brief period.
Sighing, he closed the door and returned to the chair beside the bed. From time to time, he glanced at Debra, struggling against fatigue while sipping his whiskey.

Suddenly, a soft cough broke the silence. As Debra began to stir, he instinctively wanted to get up from the sofa but quickly caught himself. He wasnโt supposed to get excited about her waking up.
โWaterโฆโ Debra muttered, her throat feeling parched.
Drake scanned the room for anything resembling water but found only various bottles of alcohol lining the shelves.
Frustrated, he opened the door once more and called out, โLara, get me a glass of water.โ
โRight away, boss,โ Lara said, scurrying off to fetch it.
When Drake turned back to the bed, he found Debra sitting up, her face still pallid and wan. She clutched her head, groggy and disoriented. โWhere am I?โ
