Chapter 745
The last note faded, and Drake hadn't played a single key. Afraid the crowd might notice, the manager swiftly signaled the security team to disperse the onlookers.
Debra looked sideways at Drake. โMr. Lowe, did I meet your requirements?โ He had demanded that she attract a thousand people, but the crowd in the square had far exceeded that number.
Drakeโs scrutiny lingered on her a moment too long, making Debra squirm. โMr. Lowe?โ
Snapping out of his thoughts, he stood up and muttered, โYouโve met the minimum standard.โ In fact, she had far exceeded his expectations.
โYou know how to create buzz and how to leverage people when necessary. Seems like youโve got more than just a bit of cunning.โ
โThatโs for sure.โ
โI wasnโt complimenting.โ
Turning to the manager, he ordered, โGet her into a proper uniform and then bring her back.โ
โYes, boss.โ
โWait,โ Debra interrupted. โYouโre not going to let me deal cards anymore?โ She had worked so hard to get close to Drakeโs inner circle, and if he denied her that chance now, everything she had done would be in vain.
โWith your petty tricks, Iโm afraid youโll lose all my assets.โ
โIโฆโ
โGet her out of my sight. Sheโs irritating me.โ
With that, he turned on his heel and walked away, leaving the manager with a newfound respect for Debra.
โMs. Frazier, this way, please.โ
Debra was frustrated, but at least she could stay. The manager led her through the back area of the casino, explaining, โThis is the first time Mr. Lowe has personally taken charge of a newcomer. Itโs clear heโs paying special attention to you, Ms. Frazier.โ
โSpecial attention?โ Debra scoffed. He had kidnapped her and taken her all the way here to Orkgate, using her as leverage against Marion. If someone didnโt know better, they might think he had feelings for her. Only she knew his true aim.
If Marion came to Orkgate, it would be a death sentence for both of them. Debra wondered if Drake was the one who had pressured Ralph to murder her parents. The thought of it alone sent chills through her.
โMs. Frazier, here is your working uniform,โ said the manager, handing her an evening dress more luxurious than what she was wearing.
She took it and headed to the dressing room. When she came out, the golden dress accentuated her fair skin and highlighted her curvaceous figure.
The manager was impressed. โMs. Frazier, you look stunning in this dress. Youโre gonna be popular among the guests.โ
โWell, may I ask what position Mr. Lowe has assigned me to? A pianist?โ A pianist dressed like this wouldnโt be unusual in a place like this. Attracting customers was all that mattered.
โYouโll see. Do well, and you will earn at least this much every month.โ
