Chapter 782
It seemed inevitable that Debra would be left alone with Kale. Before long, Kale entered the room, his demeanor as unyielding as ever.
โMr. Lowe has asked me to take you home,โ he said.
โI know,โ Debra replied.
With a sigh, Debra threw off the blanket and struggled to get out of bed. Kale, however, made no move to assist her, merely standing by like a heartless automaton.
Debra inhaled sharply as pain shot through her. A nurse passing by rushed over to help. โAre you her family? How can you just stand there and watch your wife in pain without offering a hand?โ
Kale frowned, annoyance flickering in his eyes. Debra explained, โHeโs not my husband, but just a friend.โ
โEven so, he shouldnโt just stand by. He should be helping,โ the nurse insisted, placing Debraโs arm in Kaleโs.
When he tried to pull away, the nurse firmly said, โThis patient is injured. You need to support her properly while she walks. If her wound tears open, sheโll need another round of treatment.โ
โThank you. Heโll take good care of me,โ Debra said, leaning heavily against Kaleโs arm.
Despite the pressure, Kaleโs muscular arm remained rigid. However, after the nurseโs scolding, he finally started guiding her into the elevator.
Once outside, he drove the car to the hospital entrance and opened the door for Debra. As she climbed in, Kale slid into the driverโs seat, and the car began to move. Through the rearview mirror, Debra caught a glimpse of Kaleโs expressionless face. He was no better than a machine.
They drove for a while, but the familiar landmarks remained absent.
โThis road doesnโt lead to the villa, does it?โ Debra asked, her voice laced with suspicion.
In the few days she had spent in Orkgate, she had memorized the routes around Drakeโs villa. There was no way it should take over twenty minutes to get there from the hospital.
Kale remained silent, his focus unwavering. Growing uneasy, Debra reached for the door handle, only to find it locked tight.
Chapter 782
โWhat are you trying to do?โ she frowned, anxiety creeping in.
Suddenly, Kale slammed on the brakes, yanking her out of the car. They found themselves on a deserted road in an undeveloped commercial area, a man-made lake glimmering nearby. Kale dragged her toward it, his intentions clear.
โWhat are you doing?โ Debra asked, struggling to keep her composure.
She realized if Kale wanted to kill her there, no one would stop him.
His voice was as cold as the wind. โTell me why youโre sticking close to Mr. Lowe, or Iโll kill you.โ
He stepped closer, the menace in his eyes unmistakable. Debra glanced back at the lake, understanding his grim intention to drown her.
โDrake didnโt order you to kill me.โ
โHe didnโt, but I wonโt let anyone pose a threat to him.โ
Kaleโs gaze gleamed with murderous intent, but Debra took a step back, desperately holding her ground.
โIf you kill me,โ she said, โhe will never get what he wants.โ
