Debra was stunned. “Geeze, what are you doing?”

Drake had just shoved Yvonne down a flight of stairs in her own home. That would create a rift between the Sharp family and him.

Down below, Yvonne lay crumpled on the floor. Her body was bruised, and a deep gash on her forehead was trickling blood.

Just then, Conrad Sharp hurried inside with dense sweat on his forehead.

“Mr. Lowe, what happened here?”

“Yvonne was careless. She fell down the stairs.”

Conrad stiffened, eyeing the maids for confirmation, but they all bowed their heads.

But instead of rushing over to help Yvonne, he urged the maids, “Take her to her room and call the doctor.”

The maids scrambled to action, lifting the unconscious Yvonne and carrying her away.

From above the staircase, Drake looked down at Conrad.

“Keep her in check and prevent her from crossing the line again, or she won’t be so lucky next time.”

“I understand. I’ll see to it that she doesn’t cause any more trouble for you.”

“Good.”

Drake turned and walked away. Debra trailed behind him with a heavy heart.

This whole thing had blown her mind. ‘What kind of grip does Drake have on Orkgate? Even the powerful Sharps trembled in front of him like servants.’

As they walked through the courtyard, Drake glanced at her, noting the look of dread on her face. “Scared?”

Debra shook her head slightly, still suffering from the aftershock. “This is just too much for me to process.”

“It’s simple,” Drake said nonchalantly. “They depend on me.”

“But you nearly killed Yvonne,” Debra muttered. “Aren’t you afraid Conrad will turn against you?”

Drake remained composed. “He wouldn’t dare. Conrad has more daughters than he cares to count. Losing one means nothing to him. Once you see what kind of person he is, you will understand.”

Debra hesitated. “Yvonne has done so much for you. Does that mean nothing?”

Drake was unimpressed. “What can you expect from a woman who lowers herself for a man? Everything she did was to serve her ambitions. She wants status and respect, and we just trade with each other for what we have.”

“But she is respected as Miss Sharp,” Debra argued. “Isn’t that good enough for her?”

Drake scoffed. “Don’t be naive. Everything she has comes from me. Without my support, she’d be just another illegitimate daughter of Conrad. There would be no glory or decency to speak of.”

Debra fell silent, stunned by his words that held certain truths.
