“That’s not true,” the other maid interrupted. “That’s what they say to the public. The truth is, Miss Sharp wasn’t Mrs. Sharp’s daughter. Her mother is a mistress.”

Debra mused, “Pardon me for interrupting, but how do you know that?”

Lara fidgeted and instructed the maids, “Go clean up.” They retreated, and Lara helped Debra back to her seat.

Debra asked, “Lara, how long have you been working with Drake?”

“Three years,” Lara replied, keeping her eyes down.

“Then you must know what he is involved in.”

Lara responded quietly, “He is my boss, and it’s not my place to question his affairs.”

“Since he keeps you by his side, it means you’re capable. On that cruise ship, I almost believed you were just an innocent maid. But now I see you were sent to watch me, right?” Lara’s silence confirmed Debra’s suspicions. “You didn’t hand over Peter’s phone to him, so I owe you a favor. But if he finds out you’ve hidden something from him, all the trust you’ve worked to build with him will be gone.”

“You won’t expose me because you’ll be in trouble, too,” Lara asserted. Drake despised betrayal, and anyone who crossed him would meet a harsh fate, just like Peter. Debra wasn’t foolish enough to reveal this, and it also showed how cunning Lara was.

“Well then, please excuse me. I have things to attend to. Call me if you need anything,” Lara concluded, turning to leave.
