Chapter 804

โ€œOh? Go on,โ€ Drake said, his interest fully piqued.

Debra explained, โ€œFrom what Iโ€™ve gathered, the Odom family is teetering on the brink of ruin. Their debts are astronomical, and the interest alone is eating them alive. Thirty billion dollars is far from enough to turn the tide. Edgar will probably use it to pay off what he owes to the McKinney Group. In the end, youโ€™ll be left empty-handed, while the McKinney Group walks away with your money. Can you really afford a loss like that?โ€

โ€œYou seem well-informed about the McKinney Groupโ€™s inner workings,โ€ He leaned in and gazed into her eyes, trying to read her thoughts. โ€œDidnโ€™t you resign a long time ago? How do you still have such insight?โ€

Debra didnโ€™t flinch under his scrutinizing stare. โ€œI may have left, but that doesnโ€™t mean Iโ€™m out of the loop. My connections run deep.โ€

Drake raised an eyebrow. โ€œSo, whatโ€™s your suggestion? What should I do?โ€

โ€œEdgarโ€™s ambition far exceeds his competence,โ€ Debra said bluntly. โ€œIf I were in your shoes, Iโ€™d let him drown in his own mess. There are always more reliable partners.โ€

Drake gave her words a momentโ€™s thought but didnโ€™t seem rushed. โ€œYou raise valid concerns, but I think youโ€™re overcomplicating things.โ€

Debra frowned. โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m well aware of Edgarโ€™s situation,โ€ Drake said casually, as if he had already planned several steps. โ€œHe owes Tracy ten billion in high-interest loans. If I give him the thirty billion, heโ€™ll use it to scramble and pay her off. But even if he does, the Odom family will still be buried under mountains of debt. Itโ€™ll take them years to recover, if ever. Iโ€™m not foolish enough to lend money to a sinking ship.โ€

Debra froze. โ€œYou never intended to lend him the money?โ€

Drake chuckled, his eyes gleaming with a predatory gleam. โ€œOh, I could lend it to him. But my interest rates make Tracyโ€™s look like childโ€™s play. Edgar wouldnโ€™t survive.โ€

A chill shot down Debraโ€™s spine. If Drake went through with his plan, Edgar wouldnโ€™t just be ruined; heโ€™d be crushed beyond repair. And with that, her and Chaceโ€™s carefully laid schemes would fall apart.

โ€œFrom what Iโ€™ve heard, Edgar doesnโ€™t have full control over the Odom family. Even if you seize their assets, theyโ€™re not worth thirty billion,โ€ she said, grasping for any angle to dissuade him.

Drake cut her off with a laugh. โ€œYou donโ€™t want me to lend him the money, do you?โ€

The sudden shift caught Debra off guard, but she steadied herself and spoke plainly.

โ€œNo, I donโ€™t.โ€

โ€œGive me a reason.โ€

โ€œBecause I hate Edgar. Is that enough for you?โ€

โ€œHate? Why?โ€

Her voice was tight as she replied, โ€œBecause he used to have a thing for Shelia, and he helped her come after me. Thatโ€™s why I hate him.โ€

Drakeโ€™s brow furrowed in confusion. โ€œShelia? Whoโ€™s that?โ€

Debra blinked, surprised. โ€œYou donโ€™t know her?โ€

โ€œShould I? Is she someone important?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s Juanโ€™s fiancรฉe.โ€
