Chapter 804
โOh? Go on,โ Drake said, his interest fully piqued.
Debra explained, โFrom what Iโve gathered, the Odom family is teetering on the brink of ruin. Their debts are astronomical, and the interest alone is eating them alive. Thirty billion dollars is far from enough to turn the tide. Edgar will probably use it to pay off what he owes to the McKinney Group. In the end, youโll be left empty-handed, while the McKinney Group walks away with your money. Can you really afford a loss like that?โ
โYou seem well-informed about the McKinney Groupโs inner workings,โ He leaned in and gazed into her eyes, trying to read her thoughts. โDidnโt you resign a long time ago? How do you still have such insight?โ
Debra didnโt flinch under his scrutinizing stare. โI may have left, but that doesnโt mean Iโm out of the loop. My connections run deep.โ
Drake raised an eyebrow. โSo, whatโs your suggestion? What should I do?โ
โEdgarโs ambition far exceeds his competence,โ Debra said bluntly. โIf I were in your shoes, Iโd let him drown in his own mess. There are always more reliable partners.โ
Drake gave her words a momentโs thought but didnโt seem rushed. โYou raise valid concerns, but I think youโre overcomplicating things.โ
Debra frowned. โWhat do you mean?โ
โIโm well aware of Edgarโs situation,โ Drake said casually, as if he had already planned several steps. โHe owes Tracy ten billion in high-interest loans. If I give him the thirty billion, heโll use it to scramble and pay her off. But even if he does, the Odom family will still be buried under mountains of debt. Itโll take them years to recover, if ever. Iโm not foolish enough to lend money to a sinking ship.โ
Debra froze. โYou never intended to lend him the money?โ
Drake chuckled, his eyes gleaming with a predatory gleam. โOh, I could lend it to him. But my interest rates make Tracyโs look like childโs play. Edgar wouldnโt survive.โ
A chill shot down Debraโs spine. If Drake went through with his plan, Edgar wouldnโt just be ruined; heโd be crushed beyond repair. And with that, her and Chaceโs carefully laid schemes would fall apart.
โFrom what Iโve heard, Edgar doesnโt have full control over the Odom family. Even if you seize their assets, theyโre not worth thirty billion,โ she said, grasping for any angle to dissuade him.
Drake cut her off with a laugh. โYou donโt want me to lend him the money, do you?โ
The sudden shift caught Debra off guard, but she steadied herself and spoke plainly.
โNo, I donโt.โ
โGive me a reason.โ
โBecause I hate Edgar. Is that enough for you?โ
โHate? Why?โ
Her voice was tight as she replied, โBecause he used to have a thing for Shelia, and he helped her come after me. Thatโs why I hate him.โ
Drakeโs brow furrowed in confusion. โShelia? Whoโs that?โ
Debra blinked, surprised. โYou donโt know her?โ
โShould I? Is she someone important?โ
โSheโs Juanโs fiancรฉe.โ
