Chapter 875
Neither Marion nor Debra picked up the conversation. Parker steeled himself and continued, โMr. Houston, is there something important you need to take care of this time?โ
โYes, there is,โ Marion replied casually. โBring them in.โ
Several henchmen escorted Parkerโs wife and daughter into the room, their hands bound tightly. Parkerโs wife, a heavyset woman, had her makeup streaked with tears, while their daughter was crying in her high school uniform. โDad, save me.โ
Parkerโs face paled. โMr. Houston, what are you doing? Iโve been loyal to you for years. Why did you take my wife and daughter?โ
โThatโs not quite accurate, is it?โ Debra interjected. โYou were loyal to the Eaton family, not Mr. Houston.โ
The mention of the Eaton family struck Parker dumb. He panicked. โMr. Houston, I can explain.โ
His legs gave way, and he crumpled to the floor. Marion was known for his ruthlessness, and Parker knew that betrayal meant certain death.
โIt was the Eaton family,โ he stammered. โThey approached me, saying that they wanted to collaborate. Given the good relationship between Mr. Bernard and them, I agreed without much thought. You were far away in Seamar City, and I didnโt want to bother you with such a trivial matter.โ
Marion smirked, โSo, you made the decision on my behalf and let the Lowes open a casino in our establishment?โ
Parker knew he had violated Marionโs rules. Ever since Marion took over the Bernard familyโs business, he had forbidden any private casinos in his establishments. The punishment for disobedience was severe.
โMr. Houston, I was wrong, but I did it for our men. They work hard all year and barely make enough to live on. Without the casino, how are we supposed to survive?โ Parker pleaded.
โA yearly salary of millions isnโt enough for you? Youโre insatiable,โ Marion said, his voice laced with danger.
Parker was terrified, fearing that Marion would end his life at any moment. He remembered how Marion had shown no mercy to his men and even to Shawn, who had mentored him for years.
โI did it for the good of the company. I wanted us to make more money and live better lives,โ Parker reasoned.
She stood up and walked over to Parkerโs wife and daughter. โMrs. Orrell, the necklace youโre wearing is worth hundreds of thousands, and the bracelet on your wrist is easily worth seven figures. Those earrings are made from pearls, and that ring is inlaid with an emerald. Youโre practically wearing a seaside villa.โ
Sibyl Orrell bowed her head, feeling guilty. Debra then turned to Phoebe Orrell, who looked innocent and pitiful with her tear-streaked face.
