Chapter 896
William and Marion exchanged a knowing glance, pretending not to be familiar with each other. Debra lowered her voice and said, โIโm fine. Letโs just get out of here.โ She had noticed that the security measures here were far more stringent than usual. The guards at the door were only a fraction of what she had seen when she entered the banquet hall.
Marion had only managed to get in because Bert had deliberately let him. Bert was up to something, and it was best not to provoke him further.
โSince my wife is unharmed, Iโll be taking her with me,โ Marion said, his mind focused on Debraโs injured foot. He scooped her up into his arms and turned to leave, but Bertโs cold voice stopped him.
โWait a moment.โ
Marion paused, and Bert asked, โWas it you who had Liza brought back?โ
Debra held her breath, having seen how much Bert doted on Liza. This question seemed to hint at a desire for accountability.
โYes, it was me,โ Marion admitted.
Bert said, โLiza is my only daughter. By doing this, youโve shown no respect for me.โ
โIf she dares to bully my wife again, I will do it again,โ Marion replied firmly, then carried Debra out of the Eaton Mansion without looking back.
Carter watched Marionโs defiant departure and said, โSir, are we just going to let him go like that? If Miss Eaton finds outโฆโ
โMarion is as audacious as his grandfather,โ Bert said, stretching lazily. โLizaโs temper needs to be reined in. Iโve spoiled her too much. If something happens to me, who will protect her?โ
Carter said tentatively, โMr. Garland Eaton?โ
Bert glanced upstairs, where Garland was chasing after a maid. โHey, stop. Give me back my pillow.โ
Bert frowned. โHim? Iโd have better luck relying on the police.โ
Outside the house, Marion placed Debra in the passenger seat of the car.
She explained, โI did this to myself.โ

โI know,โ Marion hummed. โOtherwise, things wouldnโt have ended so easily.โ
Relieved that Marion understood, Debra let out a sigh. She knew he had a grudge against the Eaton family, who were now allied with the Lowe family and might have been involved in his parentsโ deaths.
โI noticed that Bert seemed quite friendly toward me,โ Debra said. โHe and Melody really do go way back, but he doesnโt seem to like her much. Do you think 40 years ago, when Bert was in Seamar City, he might have known our grandfathers too?โ
โI donโt care about any of that right now,โ Marion said as he drove. โIโm more concerned about your feet.โ
โWilliam said itโs fine.โ
โIf he had examined your wound, he would have applied medicine. I donโt want you to take any more risks.โ
โWhy are you saying this all of a sudden?โ
โBecause I just realized that if Bert had taken you hostage earlier, Iโm not sure I could have saved you.โ
