Listen to this chapter:

Kale pushed Debra into the car and placed a blindfold over her eyes.

Debra frowned. โ€œIs this necessary?โ€

โ€œYes, it is,โ€ Drake replied from the side. โ€œYouโ€™re too clever for your own good. I canโ€™t risk you outsmarting me again. Prevention is better than cure.โ€

Debra sighed and put on the blindfold. She didnโ€™t need to see. She already knew that Drake had bought a villa in the city center. According to their plan, Marion should be waiting outside the villa by now.

Cathryn, sitting in the front, looked at Debra through the rearview mirror. โ€œWhat are you planning to do with Debra?โ€

โ€œMiss Bernard, youโ€™ve achieved your goal. Why do you still care about her life or death?โ€

โ€œAre you going to kill her?โ€

If Debra returned to Marion alive, all her efforts today would be in vain.

Drake raised an eyebrow. โ€œDo you want her to live or die?โ€

The question caught Cathryn off guard. She hesitated, unsure of how to answer. She had never taken a life before. But if she let Debra live, she would never have a chance with Marion.

โ€œYou only have one chance to decide, Miss Bernard. Think carefully.โ€

โ€œLโ€ฆโ€

Debra sensed her indecision and chimed in, โ€œNo need to make it difficult for Miss Bernard. Let me decide for her. Just kill me.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m asking Miss Bernard, not you,โ€ Drake said coldly. โ€œYour life is in my hands. You donโ€™t get to choose.โ€

Turning back to Cathryn, he said, โ€œSince you canโ€™t decide, Iโ€™ll do itโ€ฆโ€

Cathryn blurted out, โ€œDeath. I want her dead.โ€

As soon as the words left her mouth, Cathryn realized the gravity of what she had said. This was the first time she had held someoneโ€™s life in her hands. The feeling of having the power of life and death was overwhelming.

Debra smiled faintly. โ€œMr. Lowe, did you hear that? Miss Bernard wants me dead. What are we waiting for?โ€

Drake glared at her. โ€œDo you really have a death wish?โ€

Debra shrugged. โ€œIโ€™ve suffered enough from the drugs. Killing me would be a mercy.โ€

โ€œThen why didnโ€™t you ask Marion to kill you?โ€ Drake asked, his voice laced with suspicion.

โ€œI couldnโ€™t bear to. Now that Iโ€™m in your hands, you can kill me without him having to go through that pain. And he will avenge me,โ€ Debra explained.

โ€œNice try,โ€ Drake scoffed. โ€œYou want me to kill you and then have Marion kill me in retaliation. Youโ€™re quite the strategist.โ€

Cathryn picked up on the underlying meaning in Drakeโ€™s words. She asked nervously, โ€œWhat do you mean? Youโ€™re not going to kill her?โ€

โ€œWell, Iโ€™ve done what I promised. What happens to Debra from now on is none of your concern. I hope you understand that,โ€ Drake said.
