Chapter 908
โI donโt think so,โ Kale replied. โAccording to our previous intel, Debra might have relapsed on our new type of drug. Once one is hooked, thereโs no going back, especially if theyโve relapsed.โ
โYouโre right,โ Drake said, picking up his newspaper again. โDebra is just bluffing. She doesnโt want to admit she canโt handle her addiction and is too proud to ask for help. So, sheโs pretending to cooperate.โ
โExactly,โ Kale agreed.
โMake her suffer a bit. If she asks to see me, tell her Iโm busy,โ Drake ordered.
โUnderstood,โ Kale said, quickly leaving the room.
It was already eight in the evening, and dinner had been prepared and sent to Debraโs room. She looked at the array of dishes on the cartโsalmon tartare, cherry foie gras, filet mignon, creamy corn soup.
โMrs. Houston, here is your dinner,โ the maid said.
โDo you have stewed fish, braised beef, and salads? Oh, I donโt like carrots, but anything else is fine,โ Debra requested.
โOf course, Mrs. Houston. Weโll prepare that for you right away,โ the maid replied, quickly leaving the room.
Kale saw this exchange at the door and stopped the maid.
โWho told you to prepare such a lavish dinner for her?โ
โUh, Mr. Lowe ordered us to prepare a good meal in the morning.โ
โGo.โ
โYes, sir.โ
Kale turned back to look at Debra, who was already digging into her steak.
She muttered, โThe chef here is quite good. I suppose Drake brought him here from Orkgate.โ
โMrs. Houston, you are a prisoner here. Please remember your status,โ Kale reminded her.
โA prisoner? I seem to recall Drake telling Miss Eaton that I was a distinguished guest. A guest deserves proper treatment,โ Debra said, taking a sip of her tea. โBesides, I came here willingly. We can always discuss a collaboration.โ
Chapter 908
โSo, you want to see Mr. Lowe?โ
โNot necessarily. I just thought of Lara, the maid who used to attend to me. She is quite nice. Is she here?โ
โShe is. If you need her, I can arrange it.โ
โIโm scared of sleeping alone at night, especially with all the doors and windows locked. Having a maid to keep me company shouldnโt be a problem, right?โ
โThatโฆ can be arranged.โ
โGood,โ Debra said, noticing Kale was still standing by the door. โWhy are you still here? Have her come and join me for dinner. I havenโt seen her in a while, and I miss her company.โ
Kale left without another word.
When Drake learned about it, he huffed, โWhat do you mean she doesnโt want to see me? Are you sure?โ
โThatโs what she said,โ Kale reported. โBut she did ask for Lara to attend to her.โ
โDoes she not understand her situation? She still wants to be pampered?โ Drake growled.
โShe said you introduced her as a distinguished guest when you brought her in. She came willingly and is open to discussing business with you,โ Kale replied.
Drake threw his cup against the wall. โShe has the nerve to talk business with me.โ
