Chapter 924
Debra casually sat down on the nearby sofa and poured herself a glass of wine.
โMy clothes are wet. I canโt wear them. Get me something new.โ
โHow did your clothes get wet?โ
โI didnโt take them off before getting in the bath.โ
Drake was just about to ask more questions when he turned around and saw Debra acting as if she owned the place. Taking a deep breath, he asked almost existentially, โAre you even a woman?โ
โOf course, I am. 100% certified,โ Debra answered matter-of-factly, glancing at him. โYou have the nerve to watch me bathe. What do I have to feel embarrassed about?โ
Drake was stifled by her retort. A tight knot of irritation coiled in his chest, and he shouted toward the door, โKale, bring Mrs. Houston a change of clothes.โ
Debra chimed in, โSomething lightweight, please.โ
Drake laughed, though there was no humor in it. โYouโve got the nerve to make demands? Do you have any idea how expensive that dress is?โ
She flashed a sly smile. โOh, come on. A man of your stature canโt possibly be short on cash.โ
Drake waved her off with an air of resignation. A knock came at the door, and Kaleโs voice followed. โBoss, the clothes are ready.โ
Glancing at Debra, who was still lounging on the sofa, Drake strode to the door and cracked it open just enough to grab the clothes. Kale blinked in surprise but didnโt dare comment. Drake took the bundle and hurled it at Debraโs head.
โDrake?โ
โJust put on your clothes.โ
He went out and closed the door behind him.
Debra breathed a sigh of relief, only for her moment of calm to be shattered by the sound of a faint beep at the door. A second later, a stiletto came flying in through the crack and landed inside the room.
โAnd hereโs your shoe. Put it on and come out,โ Drake said.
Chapter 924
After a moment of stillness, Debra confirmed he wasnโt coming back. She rose, padding softly to the window opposite the door. Peering outside, she found Frederic was already gone. A wave of relief washed over her.
In the back garden, Marion and Juan locked eyes.
โWhat are you doing here?โ
โThatโs none of your business.โ
โYou almost got Debra killed tonight.โ
โIโll keep her safe.โ
โBy jumping out of the window?โ Marion scoffed. โI donโt care what kind of deal youโve made with Andrew. Just stay away from her.โ
He brushed past Juan, who warned, โYouโve put her in danger time and again. One day, youโll get her killed.โ
Marion stopped briefly but didnโt turn around. โShe has her plans. Sheโs no fragile bird that needs sheltering under someone elseโs wings. If anything happens, Iโll deal with it. This has nothing to do with you, and donโt play with fire.โ
Without waiting for a reply, he walked off into the shadows.
Juan stood there, Marionโs words echoing in his mind. He hadnโt noticed before, but Debra was no longer that girl depending on him. The transformation must have taken a lot of struggle and willpower. But all heโd ever wanted was for her to live a peaceful life free of schemes and betrayals.
