Garland looked at the files, his initial spark of interest instantly extinguished. Just then, Lizaโs voice echoed from outside the door. โWhy are you still here? My dad doesnโt like you. Why are you still hanging around?โ
Juan frowned, and Garland perked up his ears. โSounds like a fight. Should I go break it up?โ
But Juan knew better. Garland was more likely to stir the pot than calm things down.
โMiss Eaton, please take it easy,โ Juan said, cracking open the door to see Liza tossing Melodyโs luggage out, scattering expensive jewelry and dresses across the floor. The maids tried to calm her down, but Liza was beyond control.
Melodyโs face darkened as the scene unfolded. The noise drew Bert out of his room. He scolded, โLiza, mind your manners.โ
โDad! Why are you letting her stay in our house? I donโt like her. I donโt want her here.โ Liza threw a tantrum.
Seeing her belongings strewn across the floor, Melody said bitterly, โI guess Iโve overstayed my welcome. Iโll pack my things and leave.โ
Bert, trying to smooth things over, said, โLiza was out of line. Iโll have her apologize. If you really want to leave, Iโll have someone pack your things and arrange your flight.โ
Melodyโs expression soured further. She had hoped to stay closer to Bert, but it seemed he was eager to see her go. She had barely spent any time alone with him during her stay. Perhaps she had been fooling herself this whole time.
โFine, Iโll leave,โ Melody said, fighting back her tears and returning to her room.
Bert rubbed his temples and turned to Liza. โYou can stop acting now.โ
โI was not acting,โ Liza huffed. โI meant every word.โ
Bert patted her shoulder. โAlright, donโt be upset. Iโll buy you a new house where you can relax as you like.โ
โI donโt want a new estate,โ Liza pouted. โI want you to help me find Cathryn.โ
Bert was baffled. โCathryn? What happened to her?โ
Liza replied, โShe hasnโt been answering my calls all morning. I suspect Debra took her. She is my best friend, and if Debra dares lay a finger on Cathryn, Iโll make her pay.โ
Bert said thoughtfully, โIโve met Debra. I donโt think sheโd do something like that. But donโt worry. Iโll send someone to look for Cathryn. Just stay put and wait for news.โ
โOkay, Dad. Iโll be waiting,โ Liza said, stomping off.
