Chapter 96
As soon as Debra got into the car, Joe pleaded, โMadam, please go easy on Mr. Nichols. He wonโt divorce you.โ
Debra closed her eyes. โWhen did the old lady arrive?โ
โThis afternoon,โ Joe replied.
It was just as she had guessed. Melody must have caused a scene. Once things calmed down, they called her back. Melody was always domineering and wouldnโt tolerate any disobedience. By now, Shelia should have been sent away.
The car stopped outside the Nichols familyโs house, and the gate was open. Debra walked in, seeing Sophie standing by respectfully. Melody was sitting on the sofa. Juan was kneeling on the floor, while Shelia was nowhere to be seen.
Melody asked, โIs everything packed?โ
โYes, Mrs. Nichols Sr.,โ Sophie replied, pushing out a suitcase. โThese are all Miss Milesโs belongings.โ
Melody turned to Joe and asked, โHow much of this was bought with Juanโs money?โ
Joe nervously stepped forward. โMiss Milesโs living expenses have always been covered by Mr. Nichols, soโฆโ
Melody sneered, โSo all of this was bought with his money?โ
Joe didnโt dare to speak.
Melody turned to Sophie. โThrow them all away! Tell the school principal that from today on, the Nichols family has nothing to do with Shelia. She is an adult now, and she no longer needs our support.โ
โGrandma!โ Juan frowned. โShelia is from a poor family. The tuition at Arcane Academy is expensive. How can she possibly afford it?โ
โSheโs studying finance. If she canโt handle this, all these years of your support have been wasted,โ Melody retorted. โBesides, we have invested a lot in her. Itโs time for her to do something in return.โ
Then she turned to Debra, her expression softening. โDebra, come sit here.โ
Debra lowered her head and sat beside Melody. Melody patted her hand. โIโm sorry for what happened, but divorce is a big deal. For the sake of our familiesโ relationship, we shouldnโt talk about divorce lightly. Iโll let Juan apologize to you, and you have my word. Such a thing wonโt happen again.โ
Debra glanced at Juan, who didnโt seem apologetic in the slightest.
โGrandma, feelings canโt be forced. Since Juan likes Shelia, divorce might be the best choice for both of us,โ she said.
โNonsense! Our family would never take in a poor student!โ Melody glared at Juan and demanded, โApologize to Debra now!โ
Juan frowned, refusing to do it.
Debra sighed. โGrandma, donโt force him. Itโs okay.โ
Unrelenting, Melody picked up a cane from the table and struck Juan with it.
