Chapter 96

As soon as Debra got into the car, Joe pleaded, โ€œMadam, please go easy on Mr. Nichols. He wonโ€™t divorce you.โ€

Debra closed her eyes. โ€œWhen did the old lady arrive?โ€

โ€œThis afternoon,โ€ Joe replied.

It was just as she had guessed. Melody must have caused a scene. Once things calmed down, they called her back. Melody was always domineering and wouldnโ€™t tolerate any disobedience. By now, Shelia should have been sent away.

The car stopped outside the Nichols familyโ€™s house, and the gate was open. Debra walked in, seeing Sophie standing by respectfully. Melody was sitting on the sofa. Juan was kneeling on the floor, while Shelia was nowhere to be seen.

Melody asked, โ€œIs everything packed?โ€

โ€œYes, Mrs. Nichols Sr.,โ€ Sophie replied, pushing out a suitcase. โ€œThese are all Miss Milesโ€™s belongings.โ€

Melody turned to Joe and asked, โ€œHow much of this was bought with Juanโ€™s money?โ€

Joe nervously stepped forward. โ€œMiss Milesโ€™s living expenses have always been covered by Mr. Nichols, soโ€ฆโ€

Melody sneered, โ€œSo all of this was bought with his money?โ€

Joe didnโ€™t dare to speak.

Melody turned to Sophie. โ€œThrow them all away! Tell the school principal that from today on, the Nichols family has nothing to do with Shelia. She is an adult now, and she no longer needs our support.โ€

โ€œGrandma!โ€ Juan frowned. โ€œShelia is from a poor family. The tuition at Arcane Academy is expensive. How can she possibly afford it?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s studying finance. If she canโ€™t handle this, all these years of your support have been wasted,โ€ Melody retorted. โ€œBesides, we have invested a lot in her. Itโ€™s time for her to do something in return.โ€

Then she turned to Debra, her expression softening. โ€œDebra, come sit here.โ€

Debra lowered her head and sat beside Melody. Melody patted her hand. โ€œIโ€™m sorry for what happened, but divorce is a big deal. For the sake of our familiesโ€™ relationship, we shouldnโ€™t talk about divorce lightly. Iโ€™ll let Juan apologize to you, and you have my word. Such a thing wonโ€™t happen again.โ€

Debra glanced at Juan, who didnโ€™t seem apologetic in the slightest.

โ€œGrandma, feelings canโ€™t be forced. Since Juan likes Shelia, divorce might be the best choice for both of us,โ€ she said.

โ€œNonsense! Our family would never take in a poor student!โ€ Melody glared at Juan and demanded, โ€œApologize to Debra now!โ€

Juan frowned, refusing to do it.

Debra sighed. โ€œGrandma, donโ€™t force him. Itโ€™s okay.โ€

Unrelenting, Melody picked up a cane from the table and struck Juan with it.
