Chapter 983

Randy dropped off Debra and Erica at the Potter Mansion before heading to the company with Marion to assess the situation. As soon as Debra and Erica entered, they noticed a group of foreign medical experts bustling through the first-floor hall, deep in discussion. Meanwhile, stewards and maids hurried back and forth between the first and second floors, creating an atmosphere of tension and urgency.

Debraโ€™s brows furrowed. In her past life, Andrewโ€™s illness hadnโ€™t progressed so quickly. Though many things had changed since her rebirth, an illness advancing beyond its natural course didnโ€™t seem possible. โ€œI wonder how bad it is now,โ€ Erica muttered nervously. The sight of the bustling household had unsettled her. The last time the Potter family was in such chaos was when their former lead passed away.

Debra glanced at her. โ€œIโ€™ll go check upstairs.โ€ โ€œIโ€™m coming with you,โ€ Erica insisted.

The second floor was just as chaotic. The maids, preoccupied with their tasks, barely noticed the two women ascending the stairs. Scanning the layout, Debra quickly located Andrewโ€™s bedroom. Two bodyguards were stationed outside the door. As Debra and Erica approached, one guard raised a hand to stop them. โ€œSorry, Mr. Andrew Potter is resting and cannot receive visitors at this time.โ€

Erica asked with concern, โ€œIs it that serious?โ€ The guard didnโ€™t respond, his silence speaking louder than words. Debra nodded. โ€œLetโ€™s wait downstairs, then.โ€

Just then, the door opened, and Barton stepped out. โ€œMr. Andrew Potter wants to speak with you. Please come in, Ms. Frazier.โ€ Erica blinked. โ€œWhat about me?โ€

Barton offered a polite smile. โ€œMiss Mathis, didnโ€™t you visit just yesterday? And the day before thatโ€ฆโ€ โ€œOkay, I get it,โ€ Erica waved him off. โ€œIโ€™m not going in. You two go ahead and have your secret chat.โ€

She had visited Andrew frequently out of concern, but he was tired of it. Debra chuckled, โ€œIโ€™ll be quick.โ€ Erica reminded her, โ€œGo ahead and remember to wear a mask.โ€ The last time sheโ€™d visited, the overwhelming smell of disinfectant had nearly knocked her out. She couldnโ€™t imagine how Andrewโ€™s frail body could endure such a barrage of medication.

Debra followed Barton into the room. The sharp, sterile scent of disinfectant hit her immediately, making her instinctively cover her nose. She braced herself to see a pale and frail Andrew confined to his sickbed. Instead, the bed was empty. Her eyes darted around the room and landed on an unexpected sight. Andrew was sitting on the sofa playing cards with two maids.

Andrew glanced up and smiled, โ€œCome on in and have a seat.โ€ โ€œArenโ€™t you supposed to be sick?โ€ Debra asked, dumbfounded. Her gaze flicked between the deck of cards on the table and Andrewโ€™s healthy complexion. She turned to Barton for an answer, but he swiftly exited the room and closed the door behind him.

Without a choice, she turned back to Andrew. โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ โ€œHold on a second.โ€ Andrew pulled out a pair of jokers from his deck of cards, and the maids shook their heads. He laid down his remaining seven cards. โ€œSix, seven, eight, nine, ten, jack, and queen. I win.โ€ He extended his hand. โ€œPay up.โ€
