Chapter 134
“I wanted a more appropriate opportunity, a better occasion for her to learn the truth,” Jason mused. “And yet, this… is possibly the worst way.”
He frowned. “I was careless not to notice her behind me, but… thinking back, I don’t believe I mentioned my identity to Patrick. Yet Grace called out my name. This means… she knew my identity before she saw me? Who told her?”
Jason’s eyes snapped open. He instructed Terrence, “Check Grace’s phone. See who she’s spoken to recently!”
“Yes,” Terrence replied hastily. A moment later, he reported, “Mr. Reed, Miss Cummins’s most recent call was at 6:35 PM. The number belongs to Lina Sweeney.”
Jason narrowed his eyes. “Lina Sweeney… I remember her. She’s Grace’s good friend.” He commanded, “Find out who Lina met today!”
Terrence hummed in agreement. The car arrived at the hospital where Mr. Reed resided. Jason and Terrence exited. At the patient ward entrance, Jason glanced at the bodyguard and asked, “Is the Old Master asleep?”
“No, sir,” the bodyguard replied respectfully.
Jason told Terrence to wait outside, then entered the room. Mr. Reed lay in bed, looking through a photo album. Jason recognized it—photos of his father’s childhood.
“Although the Old Master constantly complains about my father’s failings, he used to be his pride and joy,” Jason thought. “He valued him above all. And me…” Jason smirked internally. “I fear the Old Master wishes to erase the half of me that comes from Mom. When I was young, he was repulsed by my eyes—they’re so much like hers. For a time, he wouldn’t let me look at him.”
Jason sat down, silent, observing his grandfather. A long silence stretched between them. Finally, Mr. Reed finished the album and looked up.
His posture was elegant, even in its casualness. His sharp appearance and decisive manner were cold and efficient. Under his grandson’s leadership, the Reed Group had expanded dramatically.
“In all fairness, my grandson is far more outstanding than my son,” Mr. Reed said. “But every time I remember that woman’s blood in him, I feel disgusted, as if I’ve swallowed a fly. And yet, he’s the only bloodline my son left behind!”
He looked at Jason coldly. “I’ve investigated. That woman—Grace—was Sean Stevens’s girlfriend. She’s the one who killed Jennifer Atkinson three years ago, isn’t she?”
“Yes,” Jason replied, a slight smile playing on his lips.
“She’s been to jail, she’s a sanitation worker. Do you plan to be with her and make headlines for the Reed family?”
