Chapter 142
If Jason helped Grace exact revenge on the Stevens family, their wealth and power in Emerald City would be utterly destroyed.
"Mr. Reed, I—" Sean began to defend himself, but Grace interrupted. Turning to Jason, she said, "There's no need. He became a stranger to me after our breakup. I should be thankful; the car accident gave me clarity about our relationship."
Sean's face paled. Defeated, he watched as Grace spoke without even looking at him.
"Good," Jason said, rising and approaching Sean. He patted Sean's shoulder. "Thank her for not seeking revenge. Otherwise, the Stevens family's businesses would be gone by next year."
Terrified and sweating, Sean quickly thanked Grace before helping Zoe from the room. Only once outside the hospital did the siblings feel relief.
"Brother, why is Jason interested in Grace?" Zoe asked angrily.
"I told you not to mess with her," Sean replied, his mood sour.
"She's just using his power and influence! Without him, she's nothing!" Zoe, still smarting from her humiliation, seethed with hatred for Grace.
"If she'd sought revenge, the Stevens family would be in serious trouble!" Sean was grateful for Grace's restraint—she hadn't added insult to injury.
"Would Jason really target the Stevens family for a street sweeper?" Zoe asked skeptically.
"What do you think?" Sean rolled his eyes. "For the family's sake, don't provoke Grace again. Don't come to us for help if you do; you'll drag us all down."
Zoe wanted to retort, but the memory of the hospital scene silenced her.
Meanwhile, back in the hospital room, Jason stood before Grace, bending to look at her. A slight smile played on his handsome face, his captivating eyes shining like moonlight. He seemed angelic, yet his actions inspired fear.
"Are you happy today, sis?" His voice was gentle and soothing.
Grace met his gaze. "You orchestrated this scene with Sean and his sister to show me what I can't achieve, that you can easily do it, right?"
"More than that," he said. "I want to show you, sis, that I can give you everything—dignity, respect, even your past life back. Everything you desire." He gently lifted a strand of hair from her shoulder.
"If you want to be a lawyer, a star, a CEO, I can help you. I can elevate you above everyone who scorned you. Tell me, is that okay?" he whispered.
His voice was beautiful, his offer tempting. He had the power to deliver.
But Grace asked, "Do you want me to stay with you?"
"That's right," he replied.
