Chapter 18

Lily’s face was full of incredulity. "Is Jason… going to see Grace?"

Jason had attended her sister's funeral. Jennifer's fiancé had not cried; he had been stoic, as one might expect. But Lily found it interesting that he could act so coldly. She wondered what could make his mood fluctuate so drastically.

Now, she saw anger on his handsome face—an expression she had never seen before, not even regarding her sister. But it was because of… Grace?! The woman as insignificant as an ant? The woman responsible for her sister's—his fiancée's—accident and death?

She looked at Sean, seeing the same disbelief in his eyes. Terrence, standing beside Jason, leaned in and whispered something.

The splashing had stopped. Even Greg seemed curious about what Jason Reed, CEO of Reed Group, might say. Then Jason's voice rang out: "Forget it. You go down and deal with it. It's too noisy!"

Terrence nodded.

"And, Secretary Terrence," Jason warned quietly, "I expect you to handle this appropriately."

"Of course, sir." He nodded and left hurriedly.

Grace felt she had heard Jay's voice, but his voice was always calm, never angry like the man she'd just heard. Jay's cool, chiseled face, as beautiful as an angel's, flashed through her mind. If she died, would Jay miss her? Would he be alright without her?

Just as Grace felt she would suffocate and pass out, the pressure on her neck lightened. She collapsed, coughing and gasping for air. Greg had been stopped by two uniformed security guards. He lay awkwardly on the ground, surrounded by guards. A high-level club manager hurried over.

"Manager Wang, what are you saying? Let me go!" Greg shouted. "I own shares in this place! You'll be fired!"

Manager Wang ignored him, going directly to Grace. "Miss, you can leave now."

As Greg continued his outburst, people from the reunion trickled in from the dining room. Manager Wang offered his elbow to assist Grace, but she reflexively jumped back. He frowned. "Do you require assistance?"

She shook her head.

"Manager Wang, what the hell are you talking about? She's just a sanitation worker! I won't allow her to go!" Greg protested.

"This is Mr. Reed's order. He doesn't like to be disturbed," Manager Wang replied.

The words "Mr. Reed" made Greg tremble. He considered himself at the top of the city's hierarchy—wealthiest, most powerful.

"Mr. Reed?!" Greg ran a hand through his hair. "Are you nuts? Why would he defend her? She killed Mr. Reed's fiancée!!!"

Manager Wang offered no further explanation. Even Grace was stunned by the irony.

Grace adjusted her clothes, stood awkwardly, and left hurriedly. She didn't notice someone on the second floor watching her every move, ensuring her safety.
