Chapter 192
“Didn’t I used to stay here, too?” he said calmly. “Didn’t we sleep in the same house every night?”
These words sounded misleading.
Grace bit her lip. “But now…”
“What about now?” he asked.
“There’s no spare bedding. I still have yours, but I’ve never washed it. Even if I did, it would probably smell.”
“There’s a simple solution.” Jason took out his phone and placed a few orders.
Moments later, there were knocks on the door. Grace opened it to find Terrence and several of Jason’s bodyguards (whom she’d met at the hospital). They carried blankets, sheets, and pillows, and walked in.
Each person politely said, “Ms. Lane, sorry for bothering you.”
Grace’s mouth twitched. What could she say? She simply replied, “It’s okay.”
Once they’d arranged everything in her room, they left. Only the two of them remained.
Grace looked at the bed he’d made on the floor, beside hers. It was just like before. He’d always made his bed next to hers.
“You really want to sleep here?” she asked hesitantly.
“Of course,” he replied, laughing.
Or was this a game to him? He had a comfortable place to stay, yet he squeezed into her tiny rental. Was he simply enjoying a bit more poverty?
Grace lowered her eyes, remaining silent. She gathered her pajamas, intending to use the bathroom.
Suddenly, two arms encircled her. “Just tonight,” he whispered. “I only want one night here. It’s her birthday.”
Grace stilled. “Who?”
He buried his head in her shoulder, pleading, “Tonight, let me stay. We’ll be just like before, Sis?”
Her heart skipped a beat. He was Jason, but he was speaking in Jay’s voice.
“Sis, okay?” he repeated.
She hesitated, then asked, “Just one night?”
“Uh-huh. Just one night,” he confirmed.
“Then… okay.” One night. Just one night. She’d consider it thanks for rescuing her from the Feng house and taking her to the hospital. If he hadn’t intervened, things would be far worse.
Jason released her.
Grace entered the bathroom, staring at her reflection. She looked dainty, but thinner than a few years ago. Her jaw was sharper.
