Chapter 20
"Nothing happened. Since she did some things she shouldn't have, naturally, she should bear the consequences," Brian said carelessly, as if it were inconsequential. However, Grace's heart leaped. His words suggested Emily Theller had been silenced, perhaps even forced out of show business. From then on, she would lack luxuries and live a plain life. How many would willingly choose such a life, especially after experiencing luxury? Grace feared Emily Theller wouldn't cope.
"What, are you sympathizing with her?" Brian asked, looking at her. "That day, Emily Theller was not courteous to you."
"I'm not sympathizing. I don't think she'd want my sympathy," Grace replied. "And you don't need to apologize with a meal. I need to catch the bus back to Emerald City."
"I still want to treat you to a meal," Brian insisted.
Grace said indifferently, "Are you planning to force me?"
"I dislike using force, but occasionally it's not bad," Brian said, taking her hand and striding toward the car park.
"Brian, what are you doing?" Grace whispered.
"Just want a meal with you," he said casually.
Was it truly just a meal? A man like him could easily find willing companions. There was no need to force her.
As Grace wondered, they reached his car. Brian opened the passenger door, but Grace said, "Mr. Hart, I really don't have time. If I miss the last bus, I won't return to Emerald City tonight."
His ink-black eyes fixed on her. "If you're unwilling, I can guarantee you won't catch any buses tonight."
Grace was taken aback. She knew his capabilities. If he wanted to prevent her from leaving, it wouldn't be difficult.
"Why must I have this meal with you?" she asked, puzzled. This seemed excessive for a simple apology.
"Because I have some things to ask you," he said.
Hesitantly, she considered this, then got into the passenger seat. Confronting him now wouldn't benefit her. Moreover, her three years in prison had taught her much. She knew someone like him could easily alter destinies—just as he'd seemingly made Emily Theller vanish. Emily had been a famous star, yet he had shunned her.
Grace was far less significant than Emily; destroying her would be easier.
For a moment, Jason's face flashed in her mind. If the time came, would he help her?
Heavens! What was she thinking! Grace inwardly berated herself.
