Chapter 21
After being humiliated at the club, Greg was beaten and hospitalized by his father, who prioritized business over family. This incident had repercussions, significantly impacting several Anders family businesses connected to the Reed Group. The Anders family suffered substantial losses.
Those who attended the alumni gathering that day faced consequences—job losses or familial hardship. In short, everyone who ignored Grace's plight paid a heavy price.
Mia Jemerged from the personnel department, trembling and barely able to stand. She was handed a termination letter, dismissing her and requiring her to complete resignation formalities within a week.
Dismissed! The thought had never occurred to her. Her family had worked tirelessly to secure her position at the Urban Management Bureau, leveraging numerous connections. Her job had also enhanced her dating prospects; her position provided social elevation. Now, word of her dismissal would likely end those relationships.
Dismissal meant not only job insecurity but also humiliation among friends and family, devastating her family.
When she asked the personnel department for an explanation, the staff simply stated, "It's an order from above. You'll receive severance pay, but you'll never be employed here again."
Panicked, Mia called Maria. "Maria, what should I do? I've been fired from the Urban Management Bureau. You said you had good connections here. Can you help me? Can you find someone who's close to our director and ask them to intervene?"
Usually, Maria would help Mia; they were longtime friends, and Mia had always been loyal. However, Maria was preoccupied with her own problems.
Maria couldn't even protect her own family. Their previously approved bank loan had been unexpectedly rejected, threatening their financial stability. Her family was frantically trying to borrow money, but no one was willing to lend them anything. Their reputations had been irrevocably damaged.
Maria pulled the phone away from her ear as Mia continued to plead. Her family was on the brink of bankruptcy; she had no time for this.
"I can't help you. Go find someone else!" Maria said.
"You… How can you say that? I've always done what you've asked. You wanted me to lure Grace to the private room at the alumni event. I did it without hesitation. Now I need your help, and you refuse!?"
