Chapter 27
โModels make a good living,โ he said.
He stared at her. โSister, do you think I make too little money?โ
โAh, no!โ she said quickly. โI just want you to have a better life.โ Perhaps this was all there was to her life, but she wanted something better for him.
โI will have a better life. When the time comes, I can give you whatever kind of life you want,โ he told her seriously. This was just a game for him, but in that moment, he genuinely wanted to give her a better future.
For him, it would be effortless. A snap of his fingers, and it would be done.
Grace laughed. She doubted he could give her the life she wanted. However, she didn't want to hurt his feelings, so she said, โOkay, okay, then Iโll wait until you earn a lot of moneyโand then you can take care of me. That way, Iโll be able to live comfortably as someone who knows nothing except relying on you.โ
He snorted at her sarcasm. โGreat. Glad weโre agreed.โ
The next day, in the break room, Terrence overheard colleagues talking.
โHave you seen Mr. Reedโs sweater today?โ
โNo, whatโs wrong?โ
โIt seems to be an Amazon item.โ
โAre you sure? How is it possible for Boss Reed to be wearing such mainstream clothes?โ
โI donโt think itโs possible either. Could it be a branded imitation? Nonetheless, it looks different on Mr. Reed. I should buy one for my husband too.โ
โHey, send me the link later!โ
Terrenceโs body trembled, and he silently left the break room. He lacked the courage to tell them Mr. Reedโs sweater was a cheap sale item; heโd even seen another employee wearing the same one.
Mr. Reed hadn't said anything, only glancing calmly at the colleague, who looked shocked, seemingly disbelieving his boss wore the same clothes as he did.
Terrence returned to the presidentโs office and looked at his superior, who had removed his jacket and was reading documents at his desk. With his hair tied back, the sweater gave him a more scholarly, less ruthless appearance.
The sweater was likely bought by Grace. Normally, before arriving at the company, Mr. Reed changed into dry-cleaned clothes, which he changed back into before leaving. Today, however, he hadn't removed his sweater.
What did this mean? And how much longer would Mr. Reed continue visiting this woman's home? Naturally, Terrence dared not ask.
โMr. Reed, this is the purchase proposal you requested,โ Terrence said, placing the file on the desk. He paused before leaving. โDo you know Sean commissioned a publicity campaign with engagement photos throughout the city?โ
Terrence was flustered. He hadnโt expected such a question.
โYes, sir. I know. Iโve seen them.โ
โHow many of those ads are running in the city?โ Jason asked.
