Chapter 270
Grace remained silent, lost in her own world. Only when the doctor reached for the photo album did she react, clutching it tightly and screaming, "No!"
"He's not taking it," Jason said softly. "He just wants to see your injuries. Sis, give it to me so the doctor can examine your hands, okay?"
Hearing "Sis," she looked at him. "Jayโฆ" she murmured.
"It's me," he replied. "What happened?"
Her lips trembled, and tears streamed down her face. "Burnedโฆ The photo albumโฆ Mom's photosโฆ all burned."
She choked back sobs. Each blink brought more tears.
Jason was shocked. Was this a photo album of her and her mother? Knowing how important her mother was to Grace, he understood the significance of the loss.
The doctor examined Grace's hands and immediately began treating and dressing the wounds. Her hand was still bruised from a previous injury, and both hands now needed gauze bandages.
Grace remained silent, seemingly feeling no pain, but her stoicism only increased others' sympathy.
Jason pulled out his handkerchief and wiped her tears. "Stop cryingโฆ" Her distress made him feel helpless. Even his power and wealth couldn't replace the album. All he could do was comfort her.
"There are burns, but they're not serious," the doctor said. "Keep your hands dry and change the dressings daily."
"Will there be any lasting effects?" Jason asked.
"They're superficial wounds; no nerve or muscle damage," the doctor replied, "but there will likely be some scarring."
Jason frowned.
After her hands were bandaged, Grace clutched the half-burnt album as if it were a treasure.
Jason picked her up and carried her out of the emergency room to his car. "Don't worry about the scarring. Once your hands heal, I'll get an expert to remove them," he said.
She looked up, tears still clinging to her lashes, but her eyes were clearer. After a long pause, she said, "Sorry, I lost my composure."
She had been overwhelmed, seeing him as Jason and crying out to him. Was the pain too much? Had it caused her confusion?
"There's nothing to apologize for," he said. "You can always lose your composure with me."
