Chapter 275

"No one can fire you," Jason said with certainty. "Just take care of your fingers first. Do you think you can lift things and sweep the floor in your current condition?"

Grace kept her head down, silent. She truly couldn't do anything with her hands.

"Take good care of your hands first. You can do anything you want once they've healed," Jason said. Then, as if remembering something, he added, "Are you going to meet Lina Sweeney tonight? Perhaps you should reschedule until your hand injuries improve."

Someone familiar with Jason would likely be surprised to hear this. When had the most elusive man in Emerald City ever shown such concern for a woman's injuries? If it had been someone else, covered in blood and barely alive, he wouldn't have batted an eye.

"I must go," Grace replied firmly. "Lina has news about the witness in my case. I'm going to meet her and find out what happened."

She didn't notice the slight change in his expression, or how his hands had tightened.

"She has news of the witness?"

"Yes," she nodded. "But I'll need to ask Lina for more details," Grace said.

"Are you going to search for clues yourself?" he asked, brushing a strand of hair from her cheek. "As I said, I'll reverse the case for you. You needn't go to so much trouble. It may not even be necessary."

"You can't help me find the culprit of this car accident by reversing the case, can you? You can't help me figure out who did this to me. You're just trying to get me off the hook by saying I'm innocent until proven guilty. But even if I'm no longer charged, people will still think I'm a murderer."

"Are other people's opinions so important?" Jason asked, frowning.

Grace offered a wry smile. "If it were anything else, I wouldn't care, but this charge… I want to find the truth and let others know I'm not a murderer!"

She didn't want anyone to mention her mother and say she'd given birth to a daughter who killed someone. She knew the power of words.

Jason looked at Grace for a long moment, then suddenly laughed. "Fine. Let me know anytime you want my help reversing your case."

However, a darkness lingered in his eyes.

Grace spent the afternoon carefully handling the photo album, removing the photos one by one. She even carefully handled the damaged photos. With her hands still bandaged, this was difficult.

"Let me do it," Jason said. With his long, slender fingers, he helped her, his movements dexterous and graceful, a stark contrast to her clumsiness.

However, Grace was in no mood to appreciate this. Her attention was fixed on the badly burned photos.

Jason continued, one by one, revealing memories of Grace and her mother.
