Chapter 306
"You're Grace," Hadwin Stephenson stated, not as a question, but as an affirmation. After seeing Lina Sweeney on the street that day, he'd investigated everything about her.
This investigation uncovered Grace, Lina Sweeney's best friend. Lina's hasty return from abroad was due to assisting Grace with her lawsuit; she'd gone to great lengths to find lawyers and evidence. In other words, Grace was the reason Lina had left him so quickly.
This thought left Hadwin Stephenson strangely uneasy. Had Grace been male, he might have considered him a rival.
"Yes, I am," Grace said, lifting her chin. "You have no right to interfere in Lina Sweeney's and my affairs. Don't overestimate yourself. I show no mercy to women," Hadwin Stephenson said coldly.
However, Grace's anxiety only irritated him further.
Just then, Jason casually said, "I don't care what happens between you and Lina Sweeney, but you can't touch Grace."
Hadwin Stephenson turned, slightly surprised. "I didn't expect Young Master Reed to visit so late at night." He was surprised by Jason and Grace's relationship. His investigation into Grace had revealed she was responsible for the death of Jason's fiancée, Jennifer Atkinson. Yet, their current interaction was clearly unusual.
"I'm taking Lina Sweeney with me tonight," Jason said.
Hadwin Stephenson sneered. "Didn't you just say you don't care about what happens between Lina Sweeney and me?"
"I won't after tonight, but right now, I'm taking her," Jason replied.
The two men glared at each other, the tension palpable, leaving onlookers breathless. Grace and Lina Sweeney exchanged uneasy glances.
"If I disagree, will you take her by force?" Hadwin asked.
"Indeed," Jason replied confidently, as if taking Lina Sweeney from him would be effortless.
Hadwin Stephenson's eyes darkened. Despite his recent ascension in the Stephenson family, he was well aware of Jason Reed's status in Emerald City.
He turned to Lina Sweeney. "Do you want to leave?"
Stunned, Lina stared at the man she hadn't seen in over three years, hesitating before saying, "I want to leave."
Hadwin Stephenson pursed his lips. "You're as heartless as ever."
She tried to retort, but his gaze stifled her. The pain in her heart resurfaced.
Jason then left Hadwin Stephenson's house with Grace and Lina Sweeney. Hadwin Stephenson dismissed his subordinate with a curt, "Get out."
"Yes," the subordinate replied.
