Chapter 332

โ€œBy the way, you havenโ€™t been back to the office in a long time. Your old colleagues miss you very much. Itโ€™s all right now, though. We can meet anytime,โ€ Andrea Schwartz said, pulling Grace into the office. โ€œSince youโ€™re here, why donโ€™t you meet your old colleagues?โ€

Grace glanced at Andrea Schwartz, instantly understanding her motives. She decided to face them; escaping would only invite ridicule.

โ€œOkay, Iโ€™ll meet them,โ€ Grace said readily.

Her nonchalant attitude surprised Andrea Schwartz, who had anticipated a different reaction.

Once inside, Andrea Schwartz clapped her hands, gaining everyoneโ€™s attention. โ€œCome and take a look, everyone! Grace, a former colleague, is back to see us!โ€

Many people turned to look. Grace saw a mix of familiar faces and new colleagues she didn't recognize.

โ€œAndrea, did she work here before? Where does she work now?โ€ a young, new colleague asked.

This was precisely the question Andrea Schwartz wanted. However, affecting a look of regret, she said, โ€œGrace was our most promising rookie. People said sheโ€™d become a great lawyer and be snapped up by top law firms.โ€

โ€œWhich law firm is she with now?โ€ the newcomer asked curiously.

โ€œWellโ€ฆโ€ Andrea Schwartz looked at Grace with a feigned embarrassment.

Grace found Andrea Schwartz's performance clumsy and distasteful. The insincerity of her attempts to belittle Grace was far more offensive than any direct confrontation.

โ€œIโ€™m a delivery girl at Yan Yan Restaurant. Feel free to order. Iโ€™ll bring you some menus next time,โ€ Grace said, completely unfazed. There was no embarrassment or awkwardness, as Andrea Schwartz had expected; in fact, Grace even smiled.

The smile illuminated her face with an indescribable gentleness.

Andrea Schwartz gritted her teeth. Go on, Iโ€™ll see how long you can keep this up, she thought.

โ€œGrace, your boyfriend seemed quite well-off when I was shopping last time. Why are you delivering food at a small restaurant? Donโ€™t be fooled; many people pretend to be something theyโ€™re not these days. He might not be as wealthy as he appears, or perhaps heโ€™s in debt,โ€ Andrea Schwartz remarked, feigning concern.

Grace offered a faint smile. โ€œAll right, Iโ€™ll ask him sometime.โ€

Andrea Schwartz felt like she was hitting a wall. Nothing she said seemed to affect Grace.

Some of the newer employees were clearly curious about Grace's transition from lawyer to delivery girl. As Grace headed for the exit, she overheard someone asking the question.
