Chapter 348
The call finally ended, and Grace said, "What did your mother say? You look miserable enough to have mentioned kneeling on a keyboard."
"What else? Blind dates," Lina Sweeney said, rolling her eyes. "My mother says this man is a 'good catch.' She wrestled him away from the other aunts so I could have first dibs."
Lina was speechless at her mother's logic. Her mother seemed to believe that if Lina didn't marry within two years, she never would.
"Then go meet him. Consider it an opportunity," Grace said after a moment's thought.
"No! I'm already frustrated enough. Another blind date would drive me crazy!" Lina wanted to scream. The thought of her mother's constant nagging about blind dates made her sick.
"Why? Is there something else?" Grace asked.
Lina looked at her best friend before saying, "Would you believe I'm dating Hadwin Stephenson?"
Grace nearly choked. "You're dating Hadwin Stephenson? Didn't you say he was going to get evenโ"
"Yes, get even," Lina nodded.
"Then howโ"
"He probably wants us to date first. After I fall in love, he'll discard me, giving me a taste of falling from heaven to hell. Isn't that how it works in TV dramas?" Lina said.
However, Grace doubted Hadwin Stephenson would take such a childish approach to revenge. She'd heard Jason say Hadwin was cruel; otherwise, a man like himโa bastardโcouldn't have inherited the Stephenson family fortune and become patriarch. Even the family's legal mistress and her two sons were at his disposal.
"Do you think so?" Grace asked.
"What else could it be?" Lina shrugged. "Anyway, I've decided it's fine if he wants revenge this way. I'll date him for a few months, pretend to fall in love, and when he dumps me, I'll act heartbroken. That should satisfy him and let me go."
Grace was impressed. Could she really fool a man like Hadwin Stephenson with a pretense? The man had likely encountered every imaginable betrayal and dirty trick since childhood and possessed incredibly sharp eyes.
"Didn't you consider that he might stillbe in love with you?" Grace hesitated before speaking. She recalled seeing Hadwin staring at her best friend through a glass window and the time she and Jason went to the Stephenson mansion to rescue Lina.
Although Hadwin had "kidnapped" Lina to his mansion, she was unharmed. If his goal had been revenge, Lina's fate would have been far worse.
