After a while, Grace finished guiding Jason through her nail-trimming process. She felt tired from the ordeal; it would have been easier to do it herself. However, Jason seemed addicted to nail trimming. He looked at Grace's remaining fingernails and began trimming them one by one.

When he finished, Jason said, in an unsatisfied tone, "When your nails grow, I'll help you trim them again."

Grace was speechless. It was still noon; a visit to Nelson at the hospital was premature. While Jason returned to his desk, Grace scrolled through her phone. A trending topic caught her eye: Evelyn, lauded as a successful career woman and someone who had found love. The article stated Evelyn would attend a GF dinner in Emerald City with Brian, alongside Emerald City's top CEOs. This announcement effectively dispelled rumors of their breakup. The article included several pictures of Evelyn endorsing products and gracing fashion magazines.

Evelyn clearly had strong support, but Grace felt a pang of gloom. It was obvious this support stemmed from Brian. If he left her, her future wouldn't be nearly as bright. And Grace knew Brian hated being pestered. She'd seen how ruthlessly he'd treated a harassing ex-girlfriend.

Where would Evelyn end up? Grace scoffed. Evelyn's rise or fall had nothing to do with her. Evelyn had been a supportive sister figure, helping Grace with her career. But after Grace's imprisonment and her family's actions, that support vanished.

Grace continued scrolling, eventually feeling drowsy. She leaned against the sofa and closed her eyes.

Jason looked up and saw Grace asleep on the sofa. He tiptoed over. Her sleeping face was peaceful; her curled eyelashes cast shadows on her eyelids. He gazed at her obsessively, finding solace in her presence. After a moment, he took a blanket and gently covered her.

He'd once thought winning someone over would be straightforward. Now, he realized he didn't want to use power; he wanted her willingly. Her words, her eyes, her actions kept him awake at night.

"When will you fall in love with me? How long will you keep me waiting?" he murmured. The office remained silent.

Grace awoke to the familiar ceiling. She quivered, sat up abruptly, and shook off her drowsiness.
