Chapter 55
โSo, you were sleeping with another man while holding onto Chase?โ Farahโs voice cut through the air.
Grace felt a headache coming on. The world never seemed to lack people like Farah Steele. She considered a snarky retort, perhaps suggesting Farah spend some time in jailโit was full of people just like herโbut decided against engaging.
Jason turned, his gaze cold on the woman behind them.
Surprise flashed in Farahโs eyes when she saw him. This man was even more handsome than the leading men in TV series. His hair was a messโtoo long and unkemptโbut with a shorter haircut and some decent clothes, he could easily outshine the current TV stars.
Jealousy flared in Farah. Why did Grace deserve all this? Not only did she have Chase, but this handsome man as well? It wasnโt fair.
She curled her lip into a vicious smile. โAre you Graceโs friend? You probably donโt know sheโs been to prison. She hit someone while drunk driving. It was practically murder!โ
To her disappointment, the manโs face remained impassive, revealing no surprise, disbelief, or concern. He remained calm. That calm, however, caused her to take a step back. His gaze grew even colder after hearing her words.
โLooks like you were spreading those rumors,โ Jason said quietly, as if confirming a suspicion.
Fear seized Farah. She knew admitting it would have serious consequences. But why should she suffer? Grace was the murderer!
She bit her lip. โSo what if I was? I did it for everyoneโs sake. We all have a right to know if someone around us has committed a crime. If sheโs afraid of people finding out, she shouldnโt have done it!โ
Jason chuckled softly. โGood. You admitted it.โ
He then ignored Farah, turning to Grace. โSister, letโs go. I donโt want to deal with this woman.โ
โOkay.โ Grace ignored Farah completely.
The couple turned and walked away.
Farah stared at their retreating backs. โSister?โ Was this man Graceโs younger brother? They didnโt look alike. And they seemed to be around the same age!
Jason sent one icy glare over his shoulder. Farah felt it to her bones.
Grace, still holding Jasonโs hand, didn't head home. Instead, she pulled him in a different direction.
โI got my paycheck today. Letโs go shopping and have a nice meal,โ she said. โSpeaking of which, Jay, we havenโt had a proper meal out since we met.โ
โThen letโs have a nice meal,โ Jason said. โBut Iโm treating. Iโve been earning money too, and youโve been taking care of me.โ
Grace felt a pang of pride, as if her child had grown up.
โThen let me be treated,โ Grace smiled, letting go of the encounter with Chase and Farahโs insults. Jason was with her, accepting her for who she was.
They walked to a mall in the city center. Grace chose a popular, affordable restaurant. โThe food here is good, and the prices are reasonable. I used to eat here with my colleaguesโฆโ She paused.
